After some use on MTB could not adjust it. AVOID.
I cannot adjust the shifting so that it doesn't skip a few gears on a 10 rear, 2 front MTB (11-36T rear, 22-36T front). It is probably bent, but I cannot see it. I replaced the cassette, and this still didn't help. The derailleur hanger is adjusted with the tool and is straight.I am replacing it. The design seems too flimsy. Also, there is some play it in.Hopefully the next one from Shimano will be better.Listed at Amazon for $88, and it's not worth that much IMO. AVOID.

Works as well as you'd expect from XT. Excellent choice for 10-speed cassettes.
There are still a lot of 2x10 bikes out there, and this is a terrific derailleur. It's XT, it's lightweight and super-reliable. I replaced the SRAM shifter/derailleur combo on my son's race bike with this and a XT shifter. Super-slick, super-nice!

Fantastic product, best buy for your money.
Great derailleur. When paired with XT shifter it's got to be the best performance-for-price option available from any brand. Would buy again, over and over again.

Best derailleur ever from Shimano
I've been riding XT rear derailleurs for over a decade and by far, this is the best. I'll avoid boring you with history except the 2012 XT 780, which was the first "shadow" design. I did not think this could be beat. I built a bike last season and splurged on the entire Shimano 10spd dyna sys line. It was well worth it, but at the end of the year, I took a really hard hit and smashed my derailleur and hanger. Long story short, I'm rebuilding the 780 with some spare parts from Shimano, and in the meantime, picked up this new XT 786.Solid, snappy, unbelievably-clean shifting downhill, uphill, in rock gardens, crossing creeks, and if you can believe it, 24t front 11t rear (small to small) downhill through extremely rocky terrain with jumps and rock gardens and NOT A SINGLE derailment. I usually ride 32t front on downhills just to make sure that I don't lose a chain because even with a perfect length, you will lose it on a 24t. Clutch engaged, its rock solid. No joke, you have full control at all times.Shimano, you have out done yourself. Thank you.

Im trying to use the on an11-46 10 speed cassette and im having real problems. That part that the cable is bolted on to is touching the cassette when the chain is on the 10th cog and i try to shift to d 9th cog....
