AIRCARE MAF1 Replacement Wick Humidifier Filter for MA1201 (2)

Works well once you know how to maintain them
We use the MAF1 Super Wick Aircare filters in our MA1201 Aircare Humidifier. We love the humidifier. It does an excellent job. However, we struggled with the filters, replacing them after only 1 week of use, which had become very expensive. After contacting the company, we learned that water that runs through a softener creates problems, so we switched to non-softened water. That seemed to lessen the build-up that renders the filters useless. What works for us now is that we have three filters that we rotate. We pull one out of the humidifier after 7 days of operation, soak the crusted portion in vinegar for at least an hour and spray vinegar on other parts as needed. Meanwhile, we wipe out the humidifier and put a clean, DRY filter in the humidifier. We found that if you clean and rinse the filter then put it immediately back into the humidifier, it will “droop,” rendering it ineffective. So, once I’ve soaked the filter and rinsed it out, I hang it to dry, and use it the next time I do this process. It seems to work like new, as long as it is dry when you install it in the humidifier. I clean and rotate filters once a week, and, so far, we are enjoying humidified air just like we do when we install a brand new filter.

the humidity gets pretty low and things dry out
I use this for my Sears humidifier. During the winter when we run the heater a lot, the humidity gets pretty low and things dry out. I like to get two of these for the winter. I also use the Golden Solutions Bacteriostatic Humidifier Water Treatment with these. That keeps things from stinking and keeps the hard water in check. I'm pretty lazy, so I only clean the unit out when changing these and at the end of the winter/spring when putting it away. Using the treatment each time I fill up (once at night and once in the morning running 24x7) these humidifier filters hold up. I might rotate them after awhile before tossing. So maybe 30-45 days, I'll flip it since these seem to lose their effectiveness, but I'm too cheap to replace monthly (when running these as hard as I do). So for me, two lasts good enough. I'm in northern VA, and I only turn my humidifier down or off when it rains and the house gets humidity from the outside. The polar vortexes have been kinda rough. The mild February means I don't run this as hard either, but this year, it was colder in March so I ran these until the beginning of April.

This replacement wick is a joke and was like a wet noodle after one day!
After one day the wick was like a wet noodle. It was all collapsed and non functional. This the second wick we have used. The wick that came with the AIRCARE Model MA1201 humidifier by Essick Air Products worked well for a month. It held it's shape and functioned well. We were satisfied with the original but the replacement is a joke.I tried another one of these and it was fine. (added April 10, 2018)Updated April 28, 2018. We have ordered and used 4 of these replacement wicks now. Three have been great and one failed after one day. Maybe it was a bad batch. Overall we have been very happy with this wick. They seem to last for about 1 to 1 1/2 months for us.

Inability to wick water
I used this product in an AprilAire Humidifier. In less than a month it failed to keep the humidity up. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the performance. I opened the humidifier and found that the the evaporator pad was dry. It was not that the pad was covered with lime deposits - I am using reverse osmosis to supply the humidifier with water, so the water supply couldn't be much cleaner. When I examined the evaporator pad it was dry, so it couldn't possibly humidify the air. I am a chemist, so I figured that the pads were initially treated to cause them to draw in water, but that treatment had worn off.So, I began searching for a solution. As a chemist, I know that hydrophillic substances (as opposed the hydrophobic substances) tend to draw water. So, I thought about a hydrophillic substance that might be at hand. I knew that most soaps are hydrophillic substances. So, since I had some unscented Dawn dish soap, I decided to try that. I made a 20% solution of Dawn in water in a spray bottle. I used this to liberally wet down the evaporator pad. Then, I also added about a tablespoon of Dawn to the reservoir of the humidifier. The results were amazing. The humidifier almost immediately started to humidify the air. This is my experience, and it might not work for you. It certainly worked for me. At about $15 for an evaporator pad, it can save you some money and is not that difficult to do. Why do the folks that sell these pads not offer the hydrophillic solution to do this?

I Wish There Were Other Optons for my Humidifier - These Suck and Way Over Priced
I really struggle with how to rate this product. Yes it does replace the one that came with my humidifier, but that one sucked too.I mean what kind of design is this to loosely wrap a filter around until it overlaps and then put the cover back on without mashing the filter or pinching something. It's down right ludicrous. Then hope the filter does not sag after use making it less effective - which was the case here.I get the filter might fit many models so it's flexible in that regard, but how about making one that has some sort of frame that slides over everything easily and does not require two people to install and holds up. Plus you could clean it with some vinegar and reuse it.I'll probably need to buy another one as some point, because that is all there is, but I am still only giving it three stars.Oh and it should be priced under $5. I mean it's a small chunk off some big roll - give me a break. Probably a 500% markup at least.

Good for the price
These filters work great. We go through a lot of these since we heat with firewood and our humidifier is running constantly. I’m not so sure on the longevity just her, I’ve only one through one of these so far. I was originally buying them individually. I can update after I use the second one and see how long they both last.

Amazon should include product warnings like this on its website so that customers don't waste ...
There is a warning label on the box - but not on the Amazon website - that reads: "This product can expose you to chemicals including benzene which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." Do I want my kids breathing benzene particulate matter?Amazon should include product warnings like this on its website so that customers don't waste their time and money buying potentially harmful products that they wouldn't buy if they had had the full product information available to them when shopping. In a word, it's a deceptive practice.

collapsed into mush within about 3 weeks
Worked well initially but then collapsed into mush within about 3 weeks. The manufacturers could easily make a wire/plastic mesh within the units to support the filters but I guess that would eradicate a source of continual filter-replacement income. Seems like a fairly expensive method for humidifying an apartment as the filters are not cheap. I expect that there are better designs out there.

Ajustement parfait
Très bon filtre de remplacement pour mon humidificateur de marque Noma acheté au début des années 2000.La taille est parfaite et sans retouche importante. On peut y faire un ajustement parfait dans le joint avec des attaches ou des t-raps.

most expensive humidifier to run
I bought this humidifier on Dec 16, and am now on my third filter, despite having kept the machine clean and used essex treatment as directed. This means that the humidifier costs about Can $50+ month to run. That is too much for me

Ok job but they will fall apart
Not sure they are the true Aircare. If anything good to say is that they do work but not as good as the ones in store. If you don’t wet the filter every other day, they dry out at the top. When it came to maintain them (rinse and clean w javel) they fall apart or don’t stand up straight. Ok but not as good.
