MXL 990/991 Large and Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Bundle Project/Home Studio Recording | XLR | Cardiod (Champagne)

I knew about the brand but not sure what to expect from this model. I was more aware of the Gold-35 model but, the 990 I wasn't sure what to expect but buuoooyy', when I tell you I'm literally inspired to track vocals more just @ the thought of this brand model, you best believe, and to think I got it for this price, I'm still dazed. Also, the build and look is just very attractive. Now, retracking some vocals I'd already done prior just from listening to the difference in sound quality. I record @ almost 0-vol levels because it's so sensitive that it picks up from even 12-20 inch away. I'd vote for a 10* button cos 5* don't cut it.Don't overthink it, just get it cos' this is the definition of luxury value for less pay...!!

In simple words: they sound good. They deliver a nice, clear, undistorted sound. To me the point of comparation is against the sound source. This mics capture the sound of the source with great detail and I can hear a sound that is close to equal to the source. The price is just excellent. The quality of the product is good, under the usage I have gave to them on live sound settings I haven't had problems. I know there are other mics of different qualities and prices to compare this set but the point to me is that if the sound is good to you and your audience the goal is accomplished.

These were the first two condenser mics I ever purchased and they continue to serve me well since. First off, they both look pretty cool, especially with the gold speckled diaphragms, also, the carrying case is very nice. They both pick up a pretty high quality sound, good enough for starting off in amateur recording. The pencil mic gets a good, clear sound. The large diaphragm mic seems to be a little muddy and overly bassy, but can be remedied with some EQing. I've used these guys for piano, guitar (electric and acoustic), bass, cello, vocals (even got a pretty good drum sound with the two of them), and they sound good. While I will be upgrading soon, these mics will continue to be part of my recording arsenal.

Good value

These are great mics with high quality audio recording. They are better than I expected, and with certain EQ settings in a DAW, they can sound twice as expensive. Overall, a definite buy for a home studio producer or someone who just wants to learn to sing. Obviously you need a recording interface to use these, and they do not come with an XLR cable, so make sure to buy one if your audio interface doesn't come with one or you don't have any.I haven't used the 991, however, as I am only recording voice.

I was sent the wrong product twice. Instead of sending the 990/991 package, I was sent just the 990.

This microphone is so sensitive that it picked up the noise from the fan that was also in the room. I have tried two other mics and did not get the clarity I received from the MXL 990 or the MXL 991. Although you have to speak/rap/sing directly in the front of the mic. Still sounds great.
