Revival Deluxe Collection Volume 1

Great storylines, but boy does it move slowly!
I'm a fan of Hack/Slash (also from author Tim Seeley) and was curious about Revival. This is a great collection of the first 11 episodes. The story follows the many people of a small area in Wisconsin where the deads have come back to life, but instead of being zombies, there back to their regular self. It creates many tensions around the area and across the USA.The story is very interesting and creative but I did have a hard time following all the storylines because there are a lot of characters to follow. I do think that the story also moves really slow, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because there is more depth to the story, but it's bad because it seems like it gets lost sometimes with unnecessary events and I still don't know what the heck is going on.It is not your average zombie/horror graphic novel, but if you have the patience to invest yourself into Revival, I believe you will be rewarded with a very interesting universe created by the amazing Tim Seeley.

Very strong comic. Should be fun to read again and again.
Excellent format especially for a first graphic novel purchase. Still making my way through all eleven issue of full page illustrations. Lots of fun references to other works.

A bit of a struggle at first but eventually got into the story
Really was not sure if I would finish this volume but I am glad I stuck with it. A very interesting tale of people returning from the dead but not in a 'zombie' way in a small rural town out in the middle of the US. By the end, was enjoying each and every page as the story hurtled to the conclusion of volume 1

Brilliantly put together, exceptional content
This is one of the best books I've ever purchased. The deluxe edition is gorgeous and the oversized pages are a real treat. One of the best things about Revival is that the art and story are consistent throughout. There's no revolving door of artists and writers here; it's all one brilliant, cohesive style that draws you in and keeps you there. Jenny Frison's cover work is beautiful, Mike Norton's art is top notch, and Tim Seeley weaves an intriguing story full of mystery. It starts out slow with a lot of character development, but it's all with a purpose and lays the groundwork for the escalation of events. By the time things really start to get crazy, you genuinely care about the characters. That's the whole idea, right?

More than zombies
I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this, but it really has kept me surprised and entertained. It just goes to show how a good creative team can take a concept that's been explored a ton and make it their own. I feared that it would be a little too close to The Returned, but it's very much its own thing, with a great sense of place.
