different but effective
Desperate times call for desperate measures! My 3 year old was not quite trained and heading back to school so I figured I'd try it. The first part is very repetitious but adds humor to the act of going potty. Second part discusses the different characteristics of bowel movements and what it means. I appreciated the different approach that this book has since I had not seen that. I think my kid liked to know more about his body and how it all works. He immediately pooped on the potty after reading this book for the first time and within a few short days continued! So I'd say it definitely helped.

Only potty training book that helped!
I ordered several books to help with potty training for my 3 year grandson, who refused to poop on the potty. None helped to ease his fear of pooping on the potty and he wasn’t really interested in reading any of them. I ordered this book out of desperation. When it came in, I decided not to read it with him because all I could think was “Yuck!” A few weeks later my grandson found the book and asked me to read it to him. I reluctantly did. It is not only his favorite book, but he now poops on his potty! He fines this book hilarious and even reads along with me. To those who think this book might be inappropriate, as I did, I realized it’s a natural and normal body function and children need to know that if they are going to overcome their fear. Glad I decided to read it to him!

Sets Unrealistic Expectations for Toddlers
The poop coming out definitely doesn't look just like the food that was eaten! The cover has an acceptable picture, but showing a whole pineapple emerging from a bottom isn't what actually happens & can be a scary thing for a toddler.I don't recommend this book for any child under the age of 12 years!

This Book is Great! Can’t Wait to Read the Next Book These Authors Write!!!
The best children’s books are the ones that are fun, entertaining and educational at the same time! This book has it all!! Doubling up as a potty-training book, you and your child will laugh as you read through the pages together. Then as your child gets older, the second part of the book enables them to learn how to be “poop detectives”. Here a child is empowered to look at their poop’s shape and color so they know whether to tell their parents if something is wrong. As informative as the “Magic School Bus” series, I hope Mark and Mae make a series of educational children’s books like these. We can all learn something along the way with our children!

"I like it. " and then as an afterthought
The first time I read this to our kids (2.5yo), I asked them what they thought. My son replied, "I like it." and then as an afterthought, "It was kind of gross." Ha! I totally agree. I like it...and it's kinda gross. He has had some trouble with bowel movements and constipation recently and is not toilet trained, but over the past few weeks when he is trying to go in his diaper, he requests "The Poo Poo Book" to help him feel more comfortable and laugh about the experience. It has made the experience WAY better for everyone! Both he and my daughter can quote most of the book now, for better or for worse. I recommend this irreverent and very unique book as a tool for talking about poop and helping kids feel more comfortable with their bodies.

Funny and helpful
I was surprised by the beginning of the book thinking it would not be helpful, but my son found it hilarious! Between this book and the "Oh crap potty training", by 4 year old son finally got potty trained!
