An absolutely intriguing delightful read!
This was my first time reading Meghan Ciana Doidge’s work but it definitely won’t be my last as I absolutely loved this story! And while yes, I may have been a tad thrown into the story line of her other series, it’s still absolutely amazing to read even as a stand-alone! And now I can’t wait to go back and start the rest of the Adept series! Because man, this one totally captured my attention!Rochelle and Beau’s connection was utter perfection and I absolutely loved the entire story arc with Rochelle and how she slowly learned to trust what was around her and opened up to Beau and all the possibilities. The going ons with Jade, Desmond and Blackwell may be more detailed in the other series but in this one was definitely captivating and makes me want more of their story as well.Definitely a must read for anyone that likes a ride on the paranormal side!

A nice segway into new characters
I was a little leery starting another series in the midst of reading the Dowser series, even though it was the recommended reading order, because I was really caught up in Jade's world. However, I have to admit that this ties in nicely. Yes, the style is a little different and it read different which I was impressed with. Rochelle and Jade came across as 2 distinct people while narrating their stories.Rochelle is an orphan who having turned 19 recently, decided that she is ready to head out into the world. Using the money she made selling her drawings of dreams or her "hallucinations" as she calls them, she buys a Winnebago and sets out to cross the border from Canada to the US. Along the way she meets Beau, unbeknownst to her, a tiger shifter. When accosted by Blackwell and Hoyt in a diner, Beau makes the decision to take Rochelle to Desmond and his pack for protection. While there, Rochelle learns very quickly that her hallucinations are not figments of her imagination, but something completely mind-boggling. Magic, vampires, shifters, sorcerers and Jade. jade, whom she has been dreaming about for over a year is real. As is Blackwell.I adored Beau and loved the fact that we got to see some of our favorite characters again. Kandy and Kett are still at the top of my list, but I have to admit, I'm adding Beau to the list after this story. I may not like the idea of how this ended with Blackwell and Rochelle, especially given that she sees alot of what Jade does which could benefit Blackwell, but the story did tie in nicely and introduced us to new allies for Jade. Jade, who definitely does not want to know her future, even if it may help her at times.

Five Stars For An Excellent "Spinoff"
I am a huge fan of the Dowser series by Meghan Ciana Doidge, so buying and reading this book was a given. I'm so glad I did. Rochelle and Beau are two of my favorite characters Ms Doidge has created. From the first chapter, I liked Rochelle and cared about her. She's smart, spunky and admirable. She's had a rough start in life, has some major issues (according to the human world she lives in), but she hasn't let any of that define her. She's the kind of heroine I love reading about: She seizes control of her life and makes the best of it. And Beau is the perfect foil for her. He fills in the softer, less-sure of herself aspects of her life. Where Rochelle is small and weak physically, Beau is strong and powerful. Where she is confident and take charge, he is unsure and doubting...and vice-versa. Rarely have a fictional couple so perfectly complemented each other. In short, I loved this book and I highly recommend it. In fact, you should read them all. It's a rare writing talent that can create a world that invites you in, makes you long to live there in spite of the troubles and dangers. Five stars!

i really liked this book
Ms. Doidge is a wonderful storyteller. This is about a child who grew up not understanding anything about magic and the consequences of that. Rochelle is much more functioning than she could be after everything. Beau is a wonderful counterpart to her.I definitely recommend this series.

A disappointing entry in this UF world.
I love the Dowser Series by Doidge, so I was excited to read this spinoff series. Although the characters are well drawn, and Doidge's descriptions are realistic, I found myself often bored. The plot centers on Rochelle, an aged out ward of the state, who learns of the magical world and has trouble believing in magic. The premise is plausible enough in the genre of Urban Fantasy. However I found several things that made me rate this book as I did. I do not like Rochelle as well as I like Jade as a protagonist. I do feel that her desires lined up with her actions, but she is just so unpleasant. She doesn't like anyone, not even herself (more on that later). This leads me to the second problem I had with the book. I disliked the love story, it happens far too fast for two extremely self-reliant, insular people. Most of all it is the ill-paced plot that failed to hold my interest. There is a lot of scurrying around, but very little action through the book. Clearly we expect back story in an establishing book, but the exposition was often prolonged past its usefulness. It felt like filler. Secondly this book wants to be all things at once: an UF mystery, a paranormal romance, and a coming of age book. The romance is stilted, and the sex scenes are forgettable. There is no "mystery" for those of us who have read the Dowser books. The coming of age part of the story fell short. I don't want to include spoilers, so suffice to say I was unconvinced with the seeming acceptance achieved by Rochelle in this book. Which leaves me with a last caveat, I did not like the way this book treated mental illness and mental illness treatments. Why is it that books that have magic in them want to accept science and medicine until mental health enters the picture? Am I the only reader who thought that, given her backstory, Rochelle could need some counseling? Overall 2.5/5 stars.

Really good read
A really good story. No detail sex but a burgeoning love. Great drama and interesting magic. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

An Compelling Read
Doidge has written an excellent read, with a main character that had me read all day because I wanted to learn all I could about her. I expect her to appear in the next Dowser books. Highly. recommend this truly enjoyable story!

Reviewing the whole sets of interconnected series
So there are 3 series of books set in the same universe where characters intersect and connect. Series 1 , at the moment of writing, has 9 books and considers the world around Jade. Series 2 is this series, about the oracle. Series 3 comes later, and I haven't read any yet.Blackwell, the sorcerer connects series 1 and 2. In series 1, he is the ultimate nasty along with Sienna. In the Oracle, he has not, so far as I have read, been more than the ultimate collector. And he wants what the Oracle sees for his Collection.Writing is very believable and engrossing. And the characters and plots grab you. Don't forget to read in order or you will miss all about the Dragons and their significance.

Fabulous fantastical story!
Although I don't regularly read fantasy or sci-fi, I have to admit that I loved this book and was immediately absorbed into the story and by the characters! Look out Twilight....you have serious competition!!

recommend
I like books that are situated in locations familiar to me. This one is not as good as the first Dowser box set. I bought it because of the recommended sequence of stories. It moves slowly in many parts and takes too long in setting up the background.
