Marti Michell , 8065 ,Diamond Template Set, Storm at Sea, 2 Pieces Per Pack

I discovered Marti Michell Templates when I was wanted to make a Storm at Sea quilt but didn't know how to do the diamond in a rectangle that is needed for the pattern. It's so easy to use and I get consistently good results. There is no question about how to line up the pieces because the corners are already trimmed off and the pieces line up beautifully. It has only been about a month since I bought the first set. I like them so much that, I have already bought set A and B in addition to the diamond set and have set C and D on my wishlist. These also save so much time because the trimming needed is minimal. They save fabric because there is so little trimming needed and the pieces you cut are smaller. See photos below one shows the small amount of trimming needed after the diamond is sewn. Photo two and three show how nicely the pieces match up. Photo four is my flying geese chart. I made it so I would know exactly what size of flying geese I would get with the various templates in set A and B.They make great flying geese with no special tricks and no wasted fabric. They are made to use with your rotary cutter and I am able to cut 4 or more thicknesses at a time accurately!

All Marti Michell templates are a great value. They are well thought out and their use is well explained. If you need more help there is more info on the internet and usually on you tube. Yes you do need more templates to do the whole block. They are packaged separately because the other set contains pieces for lots of other quilt block patterns. People buying that set wouldn’t need this one unless they were making storm at sea. The diamond in this set can be used for other things. I have recently become interested in English paper piecing and it will be handy for that. Storm at sea is a very complicated pattern. It is on some quilters bucket lists. If you thought just this diamond shape would do the block then you might not be able to tackle that pattern at this point.

BE PREPARED TO BUY OTHER SETS OF TEMPLATES. I wanted to make the storm at sea quilt and thought I could use these for a 12" block and could just cut the square in a square pieces. A square in a square block is not usually hard to make. The templates here worked wonderfully however the instructions do not tell you what size strip to cut for the square blocks. They are an odd size so without the other template set it didn't work. She does give you a paper pattern to make your own if you can. I was very disappointed. I purchased the other set of templates for the squares and everything went together beautifully. You have to be extremely accurate in your cutting and sewing a 1/4" seam. Why not sell the complete set instead of having to purchase others? I don't know about other quilters but $26 for a complete set of templates is expensive. so disappointing. The templates are good quality but the instructions are confusing. I consider myself an intermediate quilter and had a lot of trouble with the instructions in the booklet. It tells you how to make a single block not an entire quilt. AGAIN BUYER BEWARE!!

Great for quilting and cutting fabrics

Awesome templates for patchwork quilting. I put small rubber dots so they don’t slip and it works great. Also love that you can cut the dog ears off. I use these for hand piecing and machine piecing.

Easy to handle and does the job.

It arrived on time and I looked at it for 6 months before I started my quilt. I have always been fascinated with this quilt pattern and these Templates have made it easier. They are flexible in sizes but of nice heavy plastic. They have held up well to all the cutting and have made this slightly challenging quilt easier. I would soooo recommend them to anyone wanting to make this quilt.
