Works like a charm
I bought this for a third floor office where the radiator and room was always cold. With the furnace on, going up by 1degree F, the radiator never got warm. It would only get warm when the furnace had to heat the house at least 2-3 degrees more.Eventually I decided to buy this valve as I knew it could be adjusted with a bigger opening to let more air out so the steam would come up to my radiator. Works like a charm! Easy to adjust and my radiator is always warm whenever the furnace goes on. I would buy again to try to resolve other rooms on the second floor that are far from the furnace and often colder than other rooms. All the radiator valves in my house are Hoffman, this is reliable brand.

Good product, good vendor
Don't waste your money on other cheaper vents. Buy these... well made, work well from the gitgo. Easy to adjust. Not Chinese junk.

the markings are not as easy to read as I might like
The vent arrived quickly, and was simple to install. It functions correctly, so far as I can tell in a week of iffy weather. While it is adjustable, the markings are not as easy to read as I might like. Small nitpicking, I admit.Ask me again next winter if it works better than the Dole vent I took out. Maybe it gets another star (or loses one?).

this is a life change!
My radiator was heating like a crazy and making all this terrible noise, it sounded like I have helicopter in my leaving room.I installed this amazing valve and now able to control the heat and noise problem is resolved!I'm absolutely happy and if will move to the different apartment will take it with me :-D

Vents well, but serious adjustment flaw
Works on radiators where other vents did not. However subtracting a star because the adjustment portion that turns does not fit properly on the valve base (and I have more than one of these). This leads to the 'adjusting' to more open or closed settings not work appropriately; you essentially could get any amount of being open/closed and the numbers thus comes meaningless. Furthermore, the pattern of how much the output hole is covered varies depending on what angle the top rotating piece sits on the base. So before you install, but sure to have it tilted in the desired direction to get the best approximation of actually decreasing vent size from 6 to 1, and lock in into that position with the top screw down piece

The problem-radiator heated up a little better after that but started clanging when heating up
Got this for the radiator furthest from the boiler. The radiator was heating up slowly, and usually only half of it got hot. I swapped the vent with a different type installed on a radiator in the hallway. The problem-radiator heated up a little better after that but started clanging when heating up, and the vent hissed pretty bad. I bought this vent and now the radiator works much, much better. No clanging/banging, and you can hear it open up but it is pretty quiet. Also worth noting: the other two type of vents were extremely confusing in terms of how to actually adjust their setting to be more open or closed but the Hoffman was very intuitive and came with instructions if you need them. I am probably going to buy several more of them to install on all the radiators.

Total junk
This thing is total junk. I am reading Dan Holohan's book "The Lost Art of Steam Heating." (Which is an amazing book; if you have any involvement in steam, you should read it. I now know more about the steam boiler in my house than any "expert" in my city.) He talks about these vents. Hoffman at one time was the standard. The description seems to imply this adjustable vent used to have six different ports, sized from 1 to 6. Whether that was true once upon a time or not I am not sure, but it is not what it is now. Rather there is a cup over the top of the vent with numbers from 1 to 6 stamped on the outside. On top of the vent is the vent hole, which the cup covers. The cover has a space cut out at the top in a spiral fashion. The cup is held onto the vent with a screw. As you rotate the cup, the spiral cutout covers a varying amount of the vent hole. The cup does not fit snugly over the vent, it just kind of sits there. The numbers don't necessarily align with the spiral cut out. The screw does not lock the cup into one predictable place over the vent. You have to take the screw all the way off, eyeball the spiral cutout to try to cover the vent hole the amount you want, then hold it in that position as best you can while you screw the screw back on, being very careful and hoping you don't accidentally move it an eighth of an inch this way or that because that will turn your 1 into a 6. And be careful! because as the screw tightens, of course, it tends to turn the spiral away from where you set it. And there is no visual way, after the screw is on, to verify that the vent hole is covered in the way you want it to be.This thing is truly a piece of junk. Poorly designed and poorly manufactured with the tolerances of child's toy.

AHHH! Warm and Dry!
I bought two of these steam vents to replace old corroded ones on a 105 year old steam radiator system. Having purchased a "knock-off" brand earlier only to be dismayed, I returned those and got the real deal - a Hoffman! They install in seconds and are fully adjustable for the particular configuration of the heating system at hand. Clear, concise instructions accompanied the product, making the job less mysterious to even a novice. Shipping was timely, and our house is again warm without the constant hissing and dripping to which we've become accustomed. Save yourself time and frustration and spend the few extra dollars on the Hoffman - worth every nickel! Like it!
