M. Graham & Co. Bismuth Yellow Oil Paint
J**R
Nice pigment load bright and bright clean colors
These actually compare with Michael Harding. M Graham are clean and bright especially the bright colors and all his violets, oranges that give you that real sunset glow that only Harding and Graham provide out of about 10 other top manufacturers I’ve used. Rublev is right up there and there whites cannot be even be touched they are so superior, made renascence style labor intensive but will make every painting better because it used in almost every tint. Now M Graham is a more buttery consistency but not runny, I don’t know how they do that because I don’t think they use filler but maybe a hint of honey like there water color “don’t quote me on this but it’s logical as nice as their dollops come out.” Because of the heavy pigment loads you will notice your tubes emptying much slower than other manufacturers same size except Harding the same of course. Certainly you should be able to tell I’m not sponsored by any of these guys I have tried most of them all to test and compare because contrary to what some say good paint makes beautiful painting and mediocre and poor paints make garage sale paintings at best. If you don’t have the bread then by one tube then when you get enough buy the next. PLEASE DO NOT PRICE BUY PAINT. You will quit or never be satisfied, —believe that advice —it comes from every serious painter you’ve probably noticed.I’ve not used walnut oil yet but I’m kicking it around for brush cleaning only, it’s a wonderful oil but there a better mediums we have developed with our knowledge of paint behaviors by our esteemed conservationists. In short order you will not miss a stroke with M Graham primaries and secondary’s but as another reviewer has said get your earth tones some were else....if you want to save money here is we’re to do it most of the colors truly are dirts....beautiful and hard to find and dig but dirts none the less and therefor cheaper, try the Richardson’s raw umber very neutral and plays well with othe colors. The very best is Rublev earths all of world class load and cheap for work class. Their tube sizes are huge too, so a real deal for what you get. I won’t get in to mixing science because it’s important how these dirts i.e pigments are mixed and blended and processed and Rublev has mastered it and yet pass it on to us at an incredible price. I hope I’ve not done anything wrong by not just hounding on M Graham whom I love but tryied to shared a way to get a wonderful pallet. No bread—do a simple and small double primary palet or Zorn pallet to start— if you’ve got a little bit more money try all these I’ve been naming good luck and keep your brushes wet.
