Siva Purana: English Translation: 4 Volumes

I wanted to read the original scripture in English, rather than a synopsis version. For me it is valuable to read in it's entirety, as opposed to a watered down single volume version. I wanted to read about all the timeless Vedic legends of Shiva. Really delighted with the 4 volume set. Each volume was individually shrink wrapped for protection by the printer, and this shows respect for the scripture, which means a lot. It's printed on good quality smooth paper with a beautiful full color jacket. The pages have the style characteristic of many Indian books. First printing was in 1970, before current computer technology. Reminds me of the look of old style metal type. This greatly adds to it's attraction for me.(reprint 2016) The subtitles and numbered paragraphs make it easy to refer back to. A precious investment. Each individual volume has a complete and detailed Table of Contents. The fourth volume includes a 24 page index to the set.. It is very easy to find what you are looking for in this monumental translation. Or, just read in the order, for pure devotional bliss. So happy I invested in this set. A scholar will appreciate this and a devotee of Shiva will love this set. This is a valuable purchase to last this lifetime, and benefit you beyond.

This is a 4-volumes set that is hard bound. The quality of print is fairly good. The purana itself has been translated and annotated by a board of scholars and edited by Professor J.L. Shastri. The translation is good (from what I have read so far) and there are several cross-references, some of which are not necessarily complete or maybe inadequate if someone wants to read or delve further. In addition, would suggest that the publisher add a note about the presentation style of the original purana and the attempted translation format from the board of scholars and/or other details. This will help a novice like me to understand and appreciate the works better. An addition of commentary would be great but it will add to the volumes. Hope all this is taken into account in future publications. Overall very happy with the huge attempt made by the scholars, as it is not easy.

Reçu rapidement mais ce n'est pas le propos.Version reliée 'hard cover' (traditionnels cahiers et couverture cartonnée epaisse), en 4 tomes.Arrivé filmés ensembel et intacts (coins !)je n'ai pas encore lu l'ensemble mais ai vérifié scrupuleusement avant achat :-traduction intégrale des textes originaux-commentaires et annotation venant d'une autorité reconnue-version qui semble constituer une reference/est consensuellement acceptée (d'apres mes recherches)Une solide base et réference pour qui veut étudier cette fascinate from de 'spiritualité' (je suis personellement interessé par d'autres aspects plus pragmatiques) et la culture associées à l'un des motifs religieux les plus ancines et féconds de notre histoire humain. (un dieu omnipotent/majeur/supreme qui est lié/reside sur une montagne (ou en descend) et a pour attribut la foudre, ainsi que la transfromation, creation et desctruction...c'est quand meme assez répandu non ?)Certes c'est un investissement par rapport au cout d'un poche mais si vous pensez l'employer comme réference je pense que c'est un bon choix à long terme.

This became one of my most beloved sets of book in my collection. It is the complete translation of the Siva Purana, collection of incredibly inspiring (highly symbolical but in the same time so enjoyable) stories related to the ever victorious Absolute, Mahadeva. A must have for every Shaiva, student of Indian philosophy and culture as well as the ones interested in the studies of mythologies.

It's an English translation. Would have been better if Sanskrit text was also added.
