A good price and runs very well....But there are differences from the previous engine
I bought this engine to replace the Briggs and Stratton 190cc engine on my Snapper 21" mower. The prices B&S wanted for the basic engine rebuild parts was 60% of the cost for this engine. My original had an electric start feature which I was hoping to transfer to this engine with minimal modifications. But the engine block will not accept this without some major modifications. With that said, I began mouting the engine to the mower realizing I'm back to pull starting.First thing that struck me was the engine mounting holes were not tapped. Why? It's not like you can use a bolt with a nut to mount this thing. So I tapped the holes for a 3/8 bolt. Not real difficult if you have a Tapping kit.The muffler guard is larger than the origanl one and kept the engine from mounting on the mower housing. I took it off and tried to bend it to fit. Ended up leaving it off. When finally mounting the engine, I noticed the oil drain plug was covered with a permanent cap. The instructions tell you to pull out the dip stick housing and tilt the engine on its side to drain the oil. Really B&S, how much did that convience really save. There is no throttle control. One speed. I never used it anyways. No issue with that. After adding oil, gas and a final check, it started with one very easy pull. That was the biggest surprise. I've never had an engine start so easily.Lots of plastic replaces steel and aluminum parts. A trade off for a low cost, higher HP engine and hopefully the same quality engine that it is replacing.OVERALL......I WOULD RECOMMEND THE ENGINE WITHOUT HESITATION.

Had to tap holes to mount.
I purchased this for a craftsman high wheel engine replacement and it fit the hole but I had to tap the holes and take off the return spring also I had to change the pulley because the shaft is thicker than the original but that was a plus. So all in all I love how easy it starts and runs great.

A Piece of Plastic JUNK
I have been on this Planet for close to 70 years, and grew up in a family of Tool & Die makers, My fathers old Reel type Lawn Mowers, all had Bullet Proof Briggs & Stratton Engines on them that were built like a Tank, this newest B&S engine is replacing a 21 year Old B&S Quantum XTL 6.0hp engine that came on a Snapper I purchased new, but it finally Died and went to Heaven, so I found this replacement, And when I opened the B&S shipping box and seen the "Proudly made In The USA Sticker" I was relieved, But that ended when I pick it up, and was shocked that B&S had produced an engine that is made of nothing but CHEAP Plastic, even the Carburetor and Outer Engine body is now made of Plastic, the only Metal showing on the outside of the engine is the Tin Foil Muffler and the bottom shaft, in fact I found a piece of Broken Plastic laying on the bottom of the box and soon discovered that it was a piece of the Air Cleaner Box that had broken off at the factory when it was placed in the Box, a part I may add that cost close to $65.00 to replace, to make matters worst, the PLASTIC that B&S uses to make the outside parts is not even a good Nylon Type Heavy Duty Plastic, its the type of plastic that is used to make CHEAP TOY's (BRITTLED), that will break if you look at it the wrong way. What A Piece Of American Made "GARBAGE", Briggs & Stratton, you should be ashamed of yourselves for producing a engine like this. My only regret is I didn't buy a Chinese made Engine from Harbor Freight.(UPDATE)Well I finally got the engine mounted on my Good Old Snapper, I did need to Tap out the mounting Bolt Holes (B&S Does Not Do It) because they claim you can use Self Threading Bolts to Cut their own Threads, I chose not to do it because the Blank Bolt Holes are so close to the outer edge I was afraid that if I used Self Threading Bolts, it would Break away, As many have reported there is no Fast & Slow Throttle on this engine, so if your old mower has one, you simply remove the Cable or use Zip Ties to secure it to the Handle, I would like to say that this new Design with no need for a Throttle "SUCKS" because the engine always sounds like its starving for Fuel.Needless to say, My next walk behind mower will have a Honda or Kawasaki engine on it, and Not a USA Wisconsin Made piece of JUNK that is not fit to use as a Boat Anchor.

Drop in replacement for a 775.
This engine is a drop in replacement for a B&S 775 engine. It works well, however the 775 was a little easier to get started than the 875, in my opinion (however, this could be related to the oil, see below). This engine did not come with oil in the box like some do, so I had to run to the store to get some before I used it. And for the curious, I used 15W50 synthetic oil from the farm store instead of the Vanguard oil that B&S recommends, mainly because there isn't much difference between the two. The thicker oil could be the difference between the starting characteristics I'm seeing.Overall, it's a decent engine if you just want to replace the engine rather than the whole mower.

My last Briggs and Stratton Engine
I really don't like writing negative reviews. But I wish I had not bought this. The jet in the plastic carburetor requires cleaning if I'm lucky, or replacement if I'm not, at least every other time I cut the grass. Fortunately, it isn't a difficult job and I don't mind cleaning the jet once a year. But I can't depend on being able to use this engine on a weekly basis. And, yes, I keep a clean air filter on it. And, yes, I use fresh gas with fuel stabilizer in it. I don't entirely blame Briggs and Stratton. Changing times are probably pushing them out of business. Honda has quit making lawn mowers. But they bowed out gracefully rather than selling junk. I find it really sad to see a company like Briggs and Stratton go down like this.
