Hart & Soul: The Hart Family Anthology

One Of The Best WWE DVD Sets In Recent Years!
The Hart family is responsible for some of the biggest stars and most beloved cult figures in pro wrestling history. From the famous (Bret "Hitman" Hart, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, "Rocket" Owen Hart, "Superstar" Billy Graham, Chris Jericho, Davey Boy Smith, Natalyia Neidhart) to the not so famous but popular cult figures (Lance Storm, Justin Credible of ECW fame) to the infamous (The Dynamite Kid, Chris Benoit, Teddy Hart), this family has definitely left its mark on this business! Now, the story of this family comes to DVD!Disc 1 is the basic biography showing the beginnings of Stu, how he met Helen, the rise and fall of Stampede Wrestling and the triumphs and tragedies of the Hart Family. We also see additional stories in special features section that include footage of the RAW episode where Bret Hart returned to RAW after a 12 year absence and the post-RAW celebration afterwards. On a personal note, let me also recommend this set for those clamoring to know about Owen Hart. This is probably the closest we will ever see to a biography from WWE about Owen since there is a legal battle between WWE and Owen's widow Martha Hart and Martha wants nothing to do with pro wrestling, especially WWE! While I personally can't blame Martha (her husband was killed in an accidental but totally avoidable way), at some point the anger has to go. Again, only my personal opinion but what do I know?Back to the DVD set, here is what's on Disc 2:I should note that Disc 2 and 3 are hosted by The Hart Dynasty (David Smith, Natalyia Neidhart and Tyson Kidd). And, as before with some of my other reviews, I will refer to the title matches as WWF where warranted and WWE where warranted.Keith, Bruce & Bret Hart Vs. The Kiwis & Dynamite Kid - Pretty good six man but with the PG rules in effect, the blood was taken out by changing the color on it! Booo! Still, worth a look! The Hart Foundation Vs. The British Bulldogs (WWF World Tag Team Title Match) - While these two teams have had better matches, this one doesn't suck by no means! You could even make a case that the Harts (though heels) got screwed this night! LOL! Anyway, another battle between these two legendary tag teams!Bret "Hitman" Hart Vs. "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith (WWF Intercontinental Title Match) - This is their famous SummerSlam match and while its been shown time and time again on other sets, this is one repeat I have no problem with. This is one of those matches that no description I can give it will do it justice! THIS IS A MUST VIEW IF YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT!Bret, Owen, Bruce & Keith Vs. Shawn Michaels & His Knights - This was from Survivor Series 1993 and laid the foundation for the future Bret Vs. Owen feud. Still, it was an okay match which was more about showing off the Hart brothers than anything. It also debuted Owen using the sharpshooter for the first time!Bret & Owen Hart Vs. Rick & Scott Steiner - This match is a "lost classic" in my eyes and a MUST VIEW on this set! We know about the skills of Bret and his late brother Owen but if all you know of Scott Steiner is "Big Poppa Pump", you need to see this! He actually holds his own and even outwrestles (at times) the Harts as does his brother Rick! And, you must see the Steiner Screwdriver! I had heard of it but never seen it until this match! It made me almost fall out of my couch! LOL!Seriously, you must see this contest! It is too bad they didn't do a full program with these teams! It would've been a classic!Bret & Owen Hart Vs. The Quebecers (WWF World Tag Team Title Match) - A very good contest from the 1994 Royal Rumble but also saw the full blown beginnings of Bret Hart Vs. Owen Hart!Disc 3:Bret "Hitman" Hart Vs. "Rocket" Owen Hart (WWF World Title Match in a cage) - This is still considered a classic and shows that steel cage matches don't necessarily have to be bloodbaths to be good! Also, you will see various Hart family members get involved, particularly The British Bulldog and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. I would consider this one a MUST VIEW as well!Bret "Hitman" Hart & "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith Vs. "Rocket" Owen Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart - A tag team match from RAW and a pretty good one."Rocket" Owen Hart Vs. "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith (WWF European Title Match) - This was the finals of a tournament for the now defunct European title. Amazingly, this match (except for a few instances) was clean despite the fact that both men were heels at this point! The Germany crowd was solidly behind The Bulldog in this one as he claimed the European title!Bret "Hitman" Hart, "Rocket" Owen Hart, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart & "Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman Vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust & The Legion Of Doom - One of the wildest 10 man tags ever with The Hart Foundation clearly the fan favorites in Canada though they were heels! Ends with a heartening (no pun intended) scene of the whole family celebrating in the ring and greeting the crowd.Bret "HitMan" Hart, "Rocket" Owen Hart & "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith Vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Undertaker & Dude Love (Mick Foley) - This was a flag match which the first team to capture their country's flag would win! Originally scheduled to be Shawn Michaels, he bowed out so UT took his place. The crowd, being in Canada, were behind their country men and booed the heck out of Austin and Foley though it was mixed for The Undertaker (I think it was more out of respect). Pretty good six man that saw the Harts win.The Hart Dynasty Vs. D-Generation X (WWE World Tag Team Title Match) - Pretty good match from Smackdown. Given the history between these two teams (particularly concerning Bret Hart), you knew this one would be hot! The Hart Dynasty would win the titles eventually but it wasn't to be this night as DX retained.Overall, this is a good set to pick up whether like new, used or brand new! May I also recommend getting WWE - Bret "Hitman" Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be which features his tribute match with the now infamous Chris Benoit (for those that still want their Benoit fix) and Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows - 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition which also has a one hour biography from A & E on Owen Hart. Between those three, you'll have a pretty good idea of who and what this family is and what they have meant to the business of sports entertainment!

Wish There were more than 12 matches!
Details of the hart DVD from SilvervisionThe Hart family has long served as Canada's first family of Sports Entertainment, from patriarch Stu and his Stampede Wrestling and Dungeon, a training site that has produced multiple Hall of Famers, though sons Bret, Owen, on to a new generation of WWE Superstars, The Hart Dynasty. But the family's journey was never a smooth one, as their accomplishments were often punctuated with devastating tragedies and loss. Now for the first time ever, fans can learn the entire story in Hart & Soul: The Hart Family Anthology. A brand new documentary chronicling more than 5 decades of family lineage is filled with never-before-seen Hart family interviews and supplemented with a dozen matches featuring Bret, Owen, Keith, Bruce, The British Bulldog, The Dynamite Kid, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, The Hart Dynasty, and more!Disc 1Stu HartFalling in LoveThe PromoterHart HouseRiches to RagsAll in the FamilyHart Foundation / British BulldogsStampede SoldDeanInternational SpotlightFamily FeudCanada's FamilyStruggles WithinFamily TragedyThird GenerationReflectionsSpecial Features* Stu the Athlete* Helen's Car Accident* Terrible Ted the Wrestling Bear* A Letter from Dean* Stu vs. The Tiger* A Hart Family Thanksgiving - 1987* Helen Throws in the Towel* Owen the Prankster* Chris Jericho's Flight with Owen* The Uninvited Guest* Bret "Hit Man" Hart Returns to WWE* Post-Raw Celebration (Raw - January 4, 2010)Disc 2Introduction with The Hart Dynasty6-Man Tag Team MatchKeith Hart, Bruce Hart & Bret Hart vs. The Kiwis & Dynamite KidStampede Wrestling - May 1979Stampede Arrives in WWEWorld Tag Team Championship MatchHart Foundation vs. British BulldogsBoston Garden - November 1, 1986An Unforgettable MatchIntercontinental Championship MatchBret "Hit Man" Hart vs. British BulldogSummerSlam - August 29, 1992The Hart Family in a WWE RingFamily Feud MatchBret "Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, Bruce Hart & Keith Hart vs. Shawn Michaels & His KnightsSurvivor Series - November 24, 1993Brothers vs. BrothersBret "Hit Man" Hart & Owen Hart vs. Rick Steiner & Scott SteinerFlorence, SC - January 11, 1994Ripped Apart at the SeamsWorld Tag Team Championship MatchBret "Hit Man" Hart & Owen Hart vs. The QuebecersRoyal Rumble - January 22, 1994Disc 3Sibling RivalrySteel Cage Match for the WWE ChampionshipBret "Hit Man" Hart vs. Owen HartSummerSlam - August 29, 1994The Hart Family Settles It in the RingBret "Hit Man" Hart & British Bulldog vs. Owen Hart & Jim "The Anvil" NeidhartRaw - November 7, 1994Decorated in GoldEuropean Championship MatchOwen Hart vs. British BulldogRaw - March 3, 1997Front and Center10-Man Tag Team MatchBret "Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart & Brian Pillman vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust & Legion of DoomIn Your House: Canadian Stampede July 6, 1997Border Wars6-Man Tag Team Flag MatchBret "Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart & British Bulldog vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker & Dude LoveRaw - July 21, 1997Passing the TorchWWE Unified Tag Team Championship MatchThe Hart Dynasty vs. D-Generation XSmackDown - December 25, 2009The Best is Yet to Come Only 12 matches, with 5 of them available on other WWE dvds currently in circulation knocks this release down from 5 stars to 4---I would have loved to see:Hart Foundation's Two Tag Title wins over Demolition and the BulldogsBret vs. Mr. Perfect (from Primetime Wrestling--not available on DVD)Hart Foundation/Honky Tonk Man vs. Strike Force/Macho Man in cage (1988)Bret vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin Raw Street Fight (1997)Bret vs. Ric Flair (first Title win 1992) Hopefully some (or all) of these will see the light of day in the future as surely Bret is worthy of a 3rd DVD release as Michaels,Rock, Austin, Triple H, Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and even Mick Foley have at least that many. In the mean time, this release is a can't miss for me!

hart anthology
the dvd puts faces on the people who you have heard about. I didnt know the harts were such a big family. I purchased the book last year and only have made it half way thru. The dvd is a watered down version of the book. after watching I hope to learn more details from the book. The movie will keep me in pace with the events better than speed reading backwards. I did like the dvd and thought it was very well done. The dvd doesnt get into all that bret has had to go thru to get to where he got to today. I'm not really trying to push the book but between it and the dvd I feel I have come to know the harts and their tragedies. Real sad what life dishes out especially from vince.

Hart & Soul Instant Video Review
Short Review: This video is very well nicely put together with plenty of interviews with the remaining members of the Hart family and other wrestlers. There are lots of lovely family pictures and videos included for the early part of the documentary that gives a great insight into their family life. There is no doubt that this family is one of the most successful families in wrestling simply because of the amount of them that have gone on to have great careers in the ring.If your interested in finding out more about this great wrestling family then I would highly recommend watching this documentary.

Good documentary about Hart family
Interesting learning about Hart family and Stu Hart's unquestionable impact of wrestling, however the matches in the final discs are more interesting that the actual story.
