Where in the Wild?: Camouflaged Creatures Concealed... and Revealed

This is the first in a series of great poetry books about animals for children. My 7-yo loves them. This book is a triple threat, with fun and accessible poetry, useful and kid-friendly information, and interesting and evocative photos. The poetry is clever. Some of the poetry even plays with word and phrase placing to create a visual image. And there’s a fun search-and-find element because the creatures are indeed camouflaged. Lift the page to reveal the animal’s location. It’s great to have all three in the series if you can find them… alas, only this first one is still in print :-(

Supposed to be very good condition. Arrived with several bent pages. Very distressing for a perfectionist. But I love the pictures.

This book is so neat! The photos on the flip out pages align perfectly with the photos below, so it's really clear how well the camouflage hides the animals. My five year old enjoyed the visuals, and the information about each animal is an excellent model of informational writing! (I used in fourth grade).

I bought this book to share with my niece (age 6) and nephew (7) during a recent visit. They loved it, especially my niece, who asked at least a dozen times to read it (using "read" loosely, since it's really photos and you have to find the camouflaged animal). Even I had some trouble the first time through finding the critters, and the book is genuinely inspiring in terms of the wisdom in nature and the importance of respecting the earth that supports it. I recommend this book without reserve!

I am really excited about this book and am going to use it to teach my students about animal adaptations. It came damaged so I’m a little upset about that, which is why I gave it three stars.

I bought this for my 2nd graders when we began a unit on camouflage. The pictures/illustrations are great but some of the pages are a bit long and obtuse for 2nd graders!

Great book! Fun trying to find animals and fosters memory skills, would buy again.

I bought this for my preschool classroom - the kids LOVE finding the animals. Even though the text is too much for them, they're incorporating new words into their vocabulary like 'camouflage'.
