Fastest external drive, even for older macs!
While not a solution for everyone, this Thunderbolt 3 drive is indeed compatible with older macs if you use a thunderbolt 3 powered dock, which connects to apple's thunderbolt adapter which then plugs into older Thunderbolt 2 or 1 ports on the mac. I am doing this on my Mac Pro 2013 model. Thunderbolt bandwidth automatically gets lowered to the lowest throughput in your setup, which is expected of course - but it would still work for those who might need to backup old computers in the fastest way. I did this as a gap solution personally, as I wanted the fastest external SSD for now until I get a newer computer, at which time I will get full Thunderbolt 3 transfer rates. For this to work you must have a quality Thunderbolt 3 dock with it''s own power supply. I tried Kensington SD5300T model. Apple's Thunderbolt adapter does not pass through power, which is required for this Glyph Atom Pro drive since it's bus powered. That's the issue most people miss, but otherwise if setup correctly as stated with the right thunderbolt dock, even at half speed (Thunderbolt 3 drive connected to Thunderbolt 3 dock connected to Thunderbolt 2 mac) this drive still blows most other externals out of the water. If your workstream can afford it, and you want to future proof your investment for many years - this is your gear.

Best fastest drive on the planet
Best fastest drive on the market period. Expensive but worth every penny. It’s small and portable and the heat sink works very well.

If your computer didn’t have a thunderbolt 3 connector, this drive is useless.
Was never informed before purchasing that your computer has to have a thunderbolt 3 slot in order for this to work. Adaptors do not work with this drive. Returning.

Great SSD...for the price it should be!
There aren't many true Thunderbolt 3 drives on the market (most are USB-C) so the sheer speed of this drive stands out. It's wicked fast. Also, this drive dissipates heat better than anything else I've plugged into my Macbook Pro. And it has great shock protection thanks to a substantial rubber cover over the aluminum case. The rubber cover even has a clever channel to store the cable.Minor gripes: it's big by today's standards, and the rubber cover makes it bigger. And the nifty channel that stores the cable is not the easiest to use...I've cursed at it a few times and counting. Then there's the elephant in the room: the price. There aren't many real-world applications where this kind of speed is absolutely necessary but, to quote Ferris Bueller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend it. It is so choice."

The best external storage money can buy
This review is easy: this drive is perfect. 2TB, quiet, doesn’t overheat, reads & writes at 2.7GB/second. Yes it’s very expensive, but as a creative professional that sort of speed and reliability on a well built portable NVME drive is invaluable. Makes all my Samsung T5 drives feel like 5400rpm platter drives.

CRAZY INSANE FAST! This is the one to get!
Going from a Samsung T5 to this is like going from a small sedan to a sports car. This thing is incredibly fast, and works GREAT for storage and as a scratch/cache disk for video editing. The Samsung X5 SSD is just like this one, but the great thing about this one is that it doesn't getCRAZY HOT and throttle down like the Samsung X5 does. This bad boy keeps on blasting at super fast speeds!Once PCIe 4.0 goes mainstream I can't wait to see an even FASTER version of this drive in the near future!

Great product but a bit overpriced.
This is a great product but you can build your own for about 15% - 20% less cost. If you don't want to do that and you just want a solid external NVMe TB3 drive, go for this.
