A few good stories.....
I was not impressed with this book. I liked a few of the stories, but not most of them. Seemed like the nurses were busy patting themselves on the back for all that they do instead of telling compelling stories that would make a non-medical reader want to keep reading (by the way, I actually work in the medical field and wasnt interested enough to finish the book). Glad I didnt pay for it. It wasnt horrible, but I just found it kind of boring and as I said, I didnt even finish reading it. I guess some people would find it interesting, but I didnt.

Enlightening and very touching
I ordered this book because I remembered reading Echo Heron's book more than 25 years ago. As a patient in an ICU last year (total hospital time - 24 days), it opened my eyes to just how difficult their job must be. I have nothing but praise for the nurses in the ICU while I was a patient (and I told the hospital that). Nursing is sometimes a thankless job, but this book is worth everyone's time.

Great behind-the-scenes look at the nursing field
Loved this behind-the-scenes look at the nursing field, and what those caregivers go through on a day to day basis. It takes a special breed of person to become a nurse. Read this book and find out why. The story of the hit-and-run woman broke my heart, but her nurse surely has a place in Heaven when it's time.

Boring and Depressing
I bought this book expecting stories from the ICU, but what I got was a book filled with essays about what it's like to be a nurse in the ICU or in general. I am not a nurse and I do not have enough interest in the profession to make this book remotely interesting. When stories were included, most of them were so depressing that I could barely read them through to the end. The only reason I finished this book was because it was short and I do not like to leave books unfinished. Unless you are very interested in nursing, leave this book on the shelf.

Lives in the Balance
I have not read this yet so cannot comment on that aspect of it. But I can say it was for my Kindle app which was a free download as was the book. Could not be happeir with the app :)

Nice read
Tales of the ICU, told by nurses who work there. As a nurse, this was a nice read, as I could relate to the experiences.
