Toddlerific!: 12 Faith Themes for Toddlers

This book uses simple ideas to teach young toddlers about Jesus. It is built on the idea of repetition that a toddler thrives on and there are plenty of short activities in each lesson to keep a toddler's attention and fill a Sunday school teaching hour. It's better suited for 2-year-olds since it doesn't require much verbal interaction. Something a little more verbally engaging and challenging would be a better fit for 3 and above, although it will still keep a 3-year-olds attention.Some of the activities are rhymes, coloring, pasting, using blocks to build things, sock puppets, fingerpainting, and snack crafts. It's definitely a great idea book to have around when teaching the toddler class at church.Although it has a few Bible stories, it mostly teaches about character and Christian values. What lessons are included? Jesus is Born (Christmas), Jesus is Alive (Easter), I Am Precious, Jesus Loves Me, I Love Jesus, My Family, My Friends, I Help, I Share, I Pray, Kind and Gentle, A Wonderful World.

If you're looking for Sunday school lesson for your toddler kids, this is it!!! I've bought several different lesson's for my toddler classroom, but this is by far the best one I've found. The activities are actually made for 2 and 3 year olds. Along with an interactive way to teach the bibles story, they also provide you with 12 fun activities (games, crafts, snack, songs) to do. We've broken up the lessons, making it into a four week series.so great!

This is ok for the price. I was looking for something bigger. But, it has numerous suggestions in the book that are great ideas.

We use these in our preschool program at church. Nice supplement.

Has some good ideas but i wanted more bible story related things. A lot of extra stuff we don't use or do in our bible class. Just... Meh.

Gives you some really good ideas for teaching Sunday School to 2 and 3 year olds.

(Note: I have the second book in this series called "More Toddlerific!" Since the format and content of the two books are similar and there were no reviews for "Toddlerific", I am putting this review under both books even though I have not used "Toddlerific" yet.)Our church had been using another curriculum for our toddlers and twos Sunday school class (called "Toddlers and Twos" from Abingdon Press) and didn't like it. So after doing some research online, we switched to "More Toddlerific!" from David C Cook and we are glad we did so."More Toddlerific!" (and the other book in the series "Toddlerific") give you 12 undated lessons including one for the Christmas and one for the Easter seasons. Each lesson is about a specific Bible story and includes Bible picture cards that you use a copy machine to copy onto cardstock paper and color the images (with crayons, markers, etc.) for use while telling the Bible story.Then each lesson has about 12 or so activities related to the Bible story. The suggested crafts, songs, and activities use typical school supplies (construction paper, glue, crayons, tape, etc) and simple items from home (balls, dish detergent, cardboard boxes, Os type cereal, etc.) to illustrate the Bible theme. We have had no problems getting the items needed. Also, the ideas seem to help my co-teacher and I come up with variations that also work well with our class.In most lessons, one or two of the suggested activities are related to a food item (cereal, donut holes, animal crackers, etc.) Since we also have snack time during our Sunday School hour, we have been doing the suggested activity involving food and then offering more of the food item to the children for snack time continuing our theme.Our church does not have many children in this age group. We have 3 children in our Sunday School class who regularly attend who are currently 21, 22, and 27 months old. These children really seem to enjoy the activities in this curriculum. I can only think of one activity so far that was not "a hit". However, with so many activities to choose from, if you do get one that doesn't go well, you have enough ideas to quickly move on.At the end of each lesson is a page you can copy and send home with the student so that the parents are aware of what you are studying. It also gives parents ideas on how to continue the Bible theme at home with their children. Since this age group cannot talk well, it is nice to be able to let the parents know what you have been studying.The guidance in the beginning of the book on how to teach for this age group is also well-written. We have found the suggestions that they give to be helpful. One suggestion that they give is that Toddlers love repetition, so if you want to use one lesson for two weeks, that is fine. That is how we have been teaching this material. We use the Bible cards from one lesson for two weeks in a row and then put 4-6 of the suggested activities for the first week and the remaining activities for the second week.Our only complaint is since the curriculum is designed to be copied on a copy machine for use, the Bible picture cards are just black and white and they encourage you to copy these on cardstock and color them in using crayons, pencils, or markers. That does take some time away from the limited amount of time that teachers have to prepare to teach a Sunday School class. However, we were able to get a teenager from our youth group to volunteer to copy and color these in for us, saving us some time. And we plan to save and reuse them for next year.But this one complaint about coloring in the Bible Cards is minor, overall we love this curriculum. It is simple to use to prepare to teach and the children enjoy the activities presented.Also, the cost of this book is less than half of what we were paying for the other curriculum we were using. So it is very economical. Since the lessons are undated and toddlers love repetition, you could easily reuse this book at the beginning of each school year. Also between the two books available in this series ("Toddlerific" and "More Toddlerific!"), you would definitely have enough lessons to fill the typical Sunday School year from September to May.In addition to using this curriculum for Sunday School, I also think this curriculum could be easily adapted for use during Children's Church or Vacation Bible School.A minor note, the cover photo on both "Toddlerific" and "More Toddlerific!" have been redesigned and are not the same as the photos of the cover shown on Amazon.com. However, the inside content of both books appears to be the same as described.Update to this review--May 2009:I have now had the opportunity to use the "Toddlerific" book along with "More Toddlerific!" Both books are very similar and my previous comments are correct for both. By purchasing both books, you will have 26 weeks of lessons (and more if you do what we did and use the same lesson for two weeks in a row.) Also, with both books, you have two Christmas themed and two Easter themed lessons (one in each book) which is handy. Our church is still very happy with this curriculum after 4 months of use. It works well with our two year olds!
