If you want to incorporate principles from African culture or African-American culture in your pastoral counseling, be sure to read this book and incorporate the principles re-villaging in our churches.

This book is a wonderful primer not only for Black pastors but also for those who pastor people of the African diaspora. I am in my seventh year of pastoring and my first year of seminary. I bought the book after seeing a classmate with it. Spread the word about this resource!

Dr. Kimberly is a master at controlling the flow of an often neglected subject.

This is the required textbook for my class at the Interdenominational Theological Center's Certificate in Theology. I ordered early and I am pleased with the author's thorough and scholarly treatment of the process of pastoral care in African-American churches.

Pastoral Care is an excellent book for anyone that is majoring in theology or just want to learn more about different styles of worship from a multicultural perspective

I am not an African American pastor and so I struggle to truly grasp some of the issues Dr. Wimberly addresses that are specific to that community. However, this book has brought me closer to that understanding in a small way. In reading the book I have discovered many similarities between my community and Dr. Wimberly's, enough that I also find much in his work that has applicability in my white congregation. I am most grateful for the chapter on human sexuality. He has articulated views that closely parallel my own but in a much more succinct and understandable way than I have heretofore been able to do.
