Great Lentils
Palouse Brand lentils are the best brown lentil I've found. Lentils are my favorite bean/pea and I use various varieties (red, green, brown, and black) in pilafs, veggie burgers, soups, and casseroles. The Spanish Pardina variety from Palouse has a nutty, richer flavor than regular brown lentils usually found in grocery stores. As other reviewers have noted, they hold their shape well when cooked, more like French green lentils, and are less "mushy" than regular browns after cooking. All of which makes them easier to add to recipes and provide great flavor.Palouse Brand split green peas were also of great quality. Nothing can imitate fresh green peas for a true green pea soup flavor, but Palouse's split green peas are the closest I've found. They also cook up easily and hold some of their shape and remain a vibrant green color when cooked. I use these in a "faux" guacamole dip, and, occasionally, as an additive to regular guacamole which cuts the calorie content. I've also make some healthy and tasty sandwich spreads using these in combination with basil, tofu and avocados. Great flavor without the fat and chemicals in commercial mayonnaise spreads.Packing was an unsealed plastic bag (which did allow for some loose lentils and green peas) inside a burlap/hopsack cloth outer bag which was firmly stitched closed. The outer bag fully contained any loose products and makes a unique presentation. The bags can be reused. I haven't found any rocks, or debris in either the lentils, or the the split green peas. The product was very clean. Finally, with the drive to reduce the chemical processing and additives added to our foods, GMO free products help fit the bill. I live in the Pacific Northwest and Palouse is, figuratively speaking, in my backyard. It's nice to support a local producer and to know where and how my food is produced and by whom. Great product. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Ahhhh... DELICIOUS Split Peas and Lentils!
Growing up, split pea soup (with a tiny bit of ground beef, lotsa chopped and diced veggies like carrots, corn, potatoes, onions and garlic etc.) was a weekly winter meal at our household. Not only was it economical for our big family, but it was very filling and nutritious! So, I ordered these to stash in my pantry in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers so bugs can't get to them before I do. OH, my goodness... I just had to make some split pea soup, and I danged near ate the whole pot of it in one day, because these are the best and most delicious split peas I've ever tasted! Haven't tried the lentils yet, but soon... very soon! 5 lbs of split peas isn't going to be enough to see me through the winter, so I'll definitely be ordering more!

Non - GMO Palouse Brands USA grown foods
Since I have been on a mission for Non GMO products I was thrilled to see these products available on Amazon. I have already used their beans and they are so fresh, very clean, and definitely worth looking into. Very tasty and very fresh tasting. I will be expanding to purchase their wheat berries as soon as I am able to purchase a (wonder mill) and plan to make all my flour products fresh & Non GMO which is very important today, at least I know my grandchildren will be eating much healthier food. I love the fact that I am supporting the AMERICAN FARMERS made in USA & they are supporting me with healthier foods, what more can you ask for, thank you Palouse Brands, A++++++++++

excellent customer service, really!!!
In one of my orders, I opened the lentils and had to sort them 3 times before cleaning because each time I'd find more foreign material. I found 14 pieces of debris in the first cup I sorted, taking me 15 minutes. Then, I looked at the big 5 pound bag I have and sighed... This is the most amount of debris I've ever encountered in lentils. It is also very hard to spot little brown dirt pieces and rocks amongst little brown lentils. Lentils seem fine. I didn't know how to find the place they were grown as there were no directions on the bag. I went to the website hoping for directions and found none.I have ordered from this company one time before, garbanzo beans. The first time, I noticed that the internal plastic bag was just tucked inside the burlap bag and product could spill out. This time, it was sewn into the top stitching.UPDATE:The company got in contact with me. Apparently, they had a bad batch. I was sent new lentils at no charge, which were very clean and fresh, no debris found. I was ecstatic that a company is looking at their reviews and contacting customers with problems! Since I hate waste and found myself with lentils to spare, I took some to work and shared. The lentils got positive reviews all around. Very happy customer. I will certainly buy again. I have increased the review to 5 stars. Thanks much!Regarding the code, apparently, the code you scan was once printed separately from the bag. The last few orders I obtained had the code as a sticker on the burlap. You can scan it with a smartphone ap.

The quality of the products from this company are exceptional.
I have used garbanzo beans, split peas, and lentils from Palouse. There has always been an obvious above average taste, freshness, and quality of each of these products. They cook up nicely and consistently and are alway so much more tender than other brands. I truly am disappointed when I have run out and had to use other brands of lentils, garbanzo beans, and split peas.

Good value, tasty
I've cooked both of these, and found them very good (w/ some seasoning, maybe bacon). But I live alone, so this would be a best buy for a more-than-one person household, because you need to find an airtight way to store them. The first batch of green peas I made, I made waay too much, so froze the rest.
