Lo these many years ago, when DnD was a nerdy niche pastime and not the stuff of Hollywood movies, I had a Chessex battle mat. Smaller than thus one, but great for running all manner of RPGs because it has a square grid on one side for D&D, and a hexagonal grid on the other side that is ideal for games that use hexes.I use mine with the same dry-erase markers to draw in dungeon walls, terrain features, and other things that a Game Master needs for map based combat.action.The Chessex name has been around since before this grognard ever touched funny dice, and I've always been satisfied with their gaming products.Highly recommended.

I expect this will last a long time and look forward to ordering another larger one as well. I was very pleased with how sturdy this is and it lays completely flat even after being rolled up which is fantastic! They wipe entirely clean when you use WET ERASE markers. A spritz of water and a tissue and they come entirely clean but the markers seem to hold up really well during use until you need to clear them off.

Purchased as a gift for my DM so that he had an easy way to make custom battle maps. Works great with wet-erase markers, and the mat itself seems to be good quality. I'd recommend this Chessex-brand mat over some of the other offerings on Amazon right now.

I have used Chelsea products since the late 80s! Their battlements are still the best. I bought this because my gaming stuff is packed away in storage.

It's a bear of a time trying to find hexagon shaped maps, everyone wants to play Fire Emblem! The only issue I've had is that I cannot store it without it changing shape or getting creases. But that's on me, and that's easy to fix:Unfold/unroll it, put a towel over it, iron it. If you don't have an iron, go upstairs and ask your mom. If she's not home, boil a pot of water and run the pot over the top of the towel, and try not to burn yourself.I'd say it erases really well, but that's more about the markers than the mat. I CAN say that you can scrub it harder than you do your browser history every time your spouse wants to use your computer, and it will not damage the mat. Lysol wipes work the best with waterproof markers.

Nothing beats vinyl for portable battle maps and this vinyl board has proven to be a great one so far. It flattens out fairly quickly and I love that it has hexagons on one side and squares on the other. I've only had it for a few months but no complaints so far.

Had one previously, but didn't realize that the bigger mat just meant bigger squares... ugh. Anyways, got the 1" because the old one was stained with Dry Erase when I let the Kids Play on it and they didn't clean it immediately after. again.. UGH.SO... I have the smaller mat, with wet erase markers, and I love it! Works great! Draw up the battle, let things run their course, when things are done, spray it off with water (much better than just using a wet rag and smearing it everywhere)... literally, Draw, Rinse & Repeat!
