Morels

I MIGHT RENT A JACKHAMMER THIS MAY...
I will make this decision easy for you. Put this book in your cart and buy it. This author truly deserves your business, so much so that I will be purchasing Michael Kuo's other books including 100 Edible Mushrooms (2007). This book goes far beyond "look under Elm trees" and offers the reader a remarkable approach to finding a culinary delicacy that does not play by the rules and can be very difficult to find. You can expect quality descriptions of many species within the Morchella genus with maps of their distribution, a surprisingly fascinating chapter on the False Morel (and why you should NEVER eat them), interesting history and taxonomy, hilarious personal reflections that will make you laugh, recipes, methods of preparation and preservation, detailed advice on where and when to search, all printed on quality paper stock with great color photographs. There is only one downside to buying this book, you will want to buy a time machine and fast forward to the end of April.

Excellent
I love Michael Kuo. My boyfriend and I mushroom hunt obsessively and without this mans expertise, we would still be in the dark. We own all of his books. This book is well written, often hilarious, and very informative. Would love to foray with this man and discuss fungi.

This book changed our spring
With this book, we found our first morels. We were delighted that the author busted so many myths, was so up to date on things, was so, so funny.I read it out loud to the car as we made our way to a festival we were already going to, which WAS IN THE BOOK!Anyway, highly, highly, recommend this book. It is our morel bible. My favorite part is how precise he is in the amount of science that is known vs unknown and how that may or may not relate to where the morels grow.

This book is salt-of -the Earth great!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; so much so that I bought the "100 Edible Mushrooms" also written by Michael Kuo. The photography is excellent, as is the description of the mushrooms. He writes with a sense of humor and avoids getting too technical. If you are lookng for a keyed identification guide, I would not recommend this title; there are many others more suited for that. But if you are looking for a fun, yet practical guide, this is a wonderful choice. The author understands the passion involved in finding morels......

Literature and mushroom lover
Of course I'm interested in mushrooms, but it was the literature that has led me to read this book three times in a month. Totally entertaining book with a lot of information about the subject (eating mushrooms - well no, eating morels). I've read about 20 "field guides". I learned a lot from each of them but this book gave the pleasure of reading, and knowledge. Thanks for the great book.
