Lasagna gardening is the book I first used
I used this book over 26 years ago and used it for my first planting of flowers. I gave an extra copy to a kid that love to garden. This is a great book to use if you have clay or sandy soil or difficult soil to plant in.

Life Changer
I love gardening, but am a lazy gardener with a challenging yard: bad soil, with lots of trees and shade, and blasts of hot afternoon sun. Ugh. Throw in a demanding career and family and who has time to garden? This book changed EVERYTHING for me!!! I am obsessed with composting and leaves and newspaper now..haha. I love everything about this way of gardening so much I've shared this book with my mom, my sister, and my niece. We've all gone crazy in our gardens! I have built my first lasagna garden, a trial pumpkin patch that I'm just not sure will get enough sun, but those little pumpkin seedlings are so happy and healthy! I already have plans for two more lasagna gardens this year, plus I'm starting 3-4 more now for fall/spring. This book is the best gardening book I have ever read. Go get it now! You won't regret it!

Good book for those interested in lasagna gardening.
I had been reading online about lasagna gardening and finally decided to get this book which seems to be the how-to guide. Has some really neat information in it. It seems to focused more towards the northern states in plant suggestions but still has a lot of neat advice. I am trying out the potato garden where you just put down the newspaper and then put hay, etc. on top. My potatoes seem to be growing well but still haven't done my first harvest so we will see.

Really good gardening book.
Really good information. I love this book. Encourages use of lawn clippings, leaves, dirt, and animal poo to build up a raised garden. Perfect for poor soil and clay. It’s an amazing book

Buy the book.
I had heard of lasagna (layered) gardening before. Basic details are all over the internet and you can get it for free - no need to purchase the book for that. The author has the basics on her web site. However, the book gives wonderful ideas on how to use the method with different crops. I have been using Ruth Stouts method, this is just an updated version. And yes, this does work. If you have poor soil, or hard compacted soil like mine, this will be a time and life saver. One suggestion, loosen the soil under the layers. If you have horribly compacted soil, only the most determined worm will be able to navigate his way through it. Beyond being an easy way to garden, it is a kind way to garden. It builds the life of your garden - the soil.

Always looking for ways to garden with less work involved. This is a no plow gardening idea that is just excellent. You can use inexpensive items to build up your plot rather quickly instead of having to disk and plow. The plots we did gave us wonderful vegetables and herbs. I was not sure if the outcome would be as wonderful as having a plowed garden, but was excited that our lasagna garden boomed. I had plenty of product to can and the wear and tear on my back from plowing wasn't there. Can't wait for this year's garden.

Makes too much sense!
The book was great - getting a little age on you makes you wonder how you can get your garden ready - this book was just what the doc ordered! Being the cynical being I am when I was at the co-op I asked a few questions around the method - while some didn't call it lasagna gardening most were familiar and many had been doing it for years. My beds are in process - those amazon boxes (of which I have WAY too many) are perfect for the bottom layer after you remove the tape and labels - add some peat moss and keep using her method.I loved the writing style - easy to understand and so full of ideas! I am hoping she writes another book with pictures of her gardens.

A nice idea, executed poorly.
The idea of this book is appealing. Unfortunately the section fitting the title is short and vague. Pretty much “You can layer compost and other materials as a growing medium. No digging!”. This is stretched out to cover two or three pages, but without any technical information. The majority of the book is the same list of plants you would find in every other gardening book. If you have read the description on the back cover there is nothing new inside. It was cheap at least.

Dissappointing
The article of Mother Earth News contains all of the info here, but in more detail. It breezes through the technique, and moves on vegetable gardening.
