from a female perspective, it's not as bad with objectifying women as most female-lead comics
I'd like to start off by saying that I tend to be a total DC chick, but when I saw this (and for less than seven bucks- what?!) I thought hey, why not? I've heard and read some pretty good things about Aphrodite IX, and given my love for strong female characters in comic series, I thought this would end up being a good idea. Without getting into the story, I'd like to point out that the art is pretty awesome in this, Stjepan Sejic does a pretty fantastic job. My current favorite artists are Nicola Scott, Trevor Scott, and Alex Sinclair, because of their phenomenal job on Earth 2, (buy it!) but this guy is pretty up there in regards to talent. Now for the story, since I tend to lean toward more super hero-esque story lines (I'm a five year old stuck in the body of a 20 year old, what can I say) I really found this interesting. There are so many contrasts presented - nature (kinda, right?) versus technology, god versus ???, and of course, the obvious good versus evil. Yet this story line doesn't entirely show us who IS good and who IS evil. The confusion really matches the situation in which Aphrodite IX is (you know, the whole not knowing wtf is going on in her mind thing?) I also found the concept of religion a really interesting idea to include, since it's never really present in comics I read. I mean, come on, the whole Huntress wearing a cross on her skin tight outfit thing? Wouldn't really call that "religious." Now to move on to the character of Aphrodite IX. I hate hate hate HATE HATE the fact that she has a "seduction" mode, or whatever you'd like to call it. Here she's this total badass, and yet, she's still somewhat objectified as a woman. NOT cool. And (SPOILERS) the whole, am I in love? blah blah nonsense just makes me uncomfortable. As per usual, the outfit could get a little, well, bigger, but I guess that's just what a gal's gotta live with in a fandom which constitutes of mostly dudes. Nonetheless, the hook at the end is TOTALLY unexpected and deserves two thumbs up. I will DEFINITELY be reading the next installment of this!

Wow. Pleasantly Suprised
I remember reading the original vol 1 years ago and liking it. This new vol 1 takes place in a dystopian sci-fi future, has amazing art, a great story and interesting characters. Looking forward to vol 2.

Best scifi comic I have read in ages
This isnt a super hero story as much as a scifi story with a "capable woman" lead. Not exactly a "Mary Sue" since she cant do a lot of things.I recommend this if you enjoy good scifi. Theres also plenty of action and interesting concepts.

Hot Garbage
The art was gorgeous but the story was atrocious. Basically two warring factions are warring in the future because they hate each other and thats it. One group finds this super soldier aphrodite and she instantly decides that they're the good guys and starts doing all these special ops missions for them and killing tons of people. She has no agency or motivation, just does what shes told. Then the other faction finds her handler, who having no understanding of the geo-political struggle of the future he woke up in decides he'll fight for these people and force aphrodite to assassinate a bunch of people against her will. I skipped ahead because the story just sucked so hard. Apparently they forgive aphrodite for killing all these important people, blahblahblah. Characters suck, story sucks, art is gorgeous even though Seijic has a few facial expressions they he resuses over and over and over again, even in other stories like Sunstone.

I found the story interesting and wanted to read more, but the next installment never came. The art was fairly good.

Nice story
Wish it were longer.Drawings were good and didn't make me feel like I was reading porn. So thanks...I wish the story was longer though...I kinda outgrew these short stories and the unending sequels. Gimme a thousand pages of good read at once..YES

Headshot hottie
on the back coverHundreds of years after a cataclysmic event scorched the surface, earth and its inhabitants have been forever altered and a new landscape and political struggle has taken hold between two distinct factions fighting for control. Aphrodite IX is both anachronism and advanced technology in a world that she no longer recognizes. And to survive in this future she must choose a side in a war that she wants no part in. Average story covered up with some of the best art work you will ever see.

Aphrodite IX reborn - astonishing sequel!
IMHO the follow up to the original Aphrodite graphic novel is a lot more thought through and the painted and detailed art delivery rather than Marvel-styled comic figures with digital colouring works a lot better.Plot moves away from the dystopian future/cyberpunk city to a much much older 'earth' where only two warring factions survive - the cyborgs and genetic splicers...Awesome story line, good plot, can't wait for follow-up!

Fantastic art, and a decent story
Fantastic art, and a decent story. The main character is a bit cliched, but meh.. that's about 70% of comics these days ;)
