A Powerful and Versatile Hand Vacuum Thanks to the Motorized Brush
I bought this vacuum primarily for cleaning stairs since my family lives in a condo with lots of stairs. It was a huge pain to lug the big Dyson around, but I also didn't want to pay $300 for the cordless Dyson with a motorized brush. This product had exactly what I needed and costs a fraction of the Dyson. The amazing feature of this product is definitely the motorized brush and powerful suction. I would say this would be almost on par with what Dyson has to offer. Many other vacuums feature a spinning brush but don't be fooled. Those brushes are powered by air and are therefore very weak and can be easily stopped by larger debris. The Hoover Linx Hand Vacuum's pet hair remover has a motorized brush powered by the vacuum's battery, and what a difference this makes! After vacuuming the carpet on the stairs with this I automatically noticed how fluffy the carpet became. This is the key to how vacuums work: the brush bar fluffs the carpet and agitates the particles trapped inside to make it easier for dirt and other particles to be picked up by suction. I was very satisfied by with the new sanitary conditions by feeling the carpet with both hands and feet, and also by looking into the dust bin container which quickly filled up. So for indoors, this is definitely handy if you have a house with lots of carpeted stairs. After using it on the carpet and seeing the amazing results, I started to use this on almost everything like the living room couch, dining room chairs, and my office chair. Again it picked up quite a bit of dust even after I had just cleaned the couch with a wipe. Just be sure not to use it on surfaces that the manual warns against like leather or any other material that can be damaged by scratches.Of course the next place I took to test out this product was my car. I always keep my car tidy, and get a car wash once a month. The attendants at my car wash always use a giant vacuum hose which I know is incredibly powerful, it wouldn't pick up those particles trapped in the carpet since it has no motorized brush. So after my regular car wash I emptied the dust bin and started to work on every corner of my car's carpet with this vacuum. There was so much dirt caught that I couldn't believe it. I think from now on I'm always going to vacuum my car with this vacuum after every carwash. However no matter how amazing with cleaning power was, I had to deduct a star because the dust bin is simply too small and non-user friendly. The tricky thing is the most of the smaller and lighter particles are trapped INSIDE the red cone which you can't see! This makes it very hard to know how much dust has actually accumulated inside the bin. There have been many times I've packed the inside of the red cone with dust that the filter was no longer working and suction was lost, but I can't even see it because the area between the clear bin and the red cone only traps the larger particles. The size also makes it fill up very fast so in order to maximize suction I had to empty and clean the bin with the red cone fairly often.I've used many hand vacuums before, and this definitely sets a new bar for me with what a hand vac should feature. This is a wonderful hand vacuum that has great suction, and with the motorized brush it has cleaning power equal to your standard upright vacuums in a handheld package. Battery life isn't that bad, and I assume the lithium ion battery will last longer than the batteries my previous hand vacuums had. But for something so versatile the bin is just too small to allow you to clean everything in one go. I just hope in the future they can offer something like this just with a bigger dust bin.

Ideal for specific pet environments/situations
Obviously, I bought this because it said "PET" in the description, and I wanted to be able to pick up pet hair - both that flying around on non-carpeted floors (as it does) and furniture.I'll give you this: the vacuum is lightweight, well made, and has great attachments. It's the quality I expect and receive from a Hoover (which has been around for my entire lifetime). Here are my suggestions for when it's a GOOD solution:* If you have a cat/dog/rabbit/etc. that is very small and/or doesn't shed too much. I think if you have more than two pets you'd be pushing the feasibility.)* If you have to clean a small area in a pinch - e.g., when someone happens to be coming over.* If you are traveling by car or RV and want to do some quick cleanup. (It will also pickup your typical bits of dirt, crumbs, etc.)* If you are able to point it directly at the hair you want to vacuum. (See my comment about the side vent, below.)* If you require something lightweight and easy to hold because you have some physical limitations. Here's why it IS NOT feasible in other pet situations:=> The cup fills up too fast. I spent more time unlocking the cup, emptying it, checking under the filter, pulling out any hair that didn't make it into the cup, etc. then I actually spent using the vacuum.=> The brush on the crevice tool did not stay locked in place. If you push on it just a bit, it becomes unlocked and slides down the plastic tube. For me, this didn't just happen one time: it happened every time.=> The battery lasted 10 minutes total. The description says it has "2X longer run time and fade free power," and - based upon what I have read for other products of this type - this is probably true. However, that's still a much shorter time than I expected. (There is a battery light with three settings so you can see when the power charge will be gone - sort of.)=> The vent on the side blows away what you're trying to vacuum. This is a major nuisance if you are working on a non-carpeted surface such as wood or tile floors. You will end up chasing around one piece of hair while blowing others, and seem like you're doing nothing but waving this thing around. By the time you do all this, it would have been easier to simply pickup the clump of hair with your hands! (I think this also one of the most common complaints for other handhelds.)For my situation/needs, this wasn't the right choice. I wish the title had said, "SMALL PET HAIR" because I would have looked for something else.>>WHY DID I GIVE THIS ONLY 3-STARS?<<I never like to give a product anything below 5-stars. Yet, when it really misses the mark, I have to be honest. (Sorry to whomever I have upset with this approach.)The primary reason for this rating is quite simple: the product description is not complete. As with most product descriptions, the goal is to sell you on buying the product. I am certain Hoover tested this - again, because of their reputation. However, they completely failed (in my opinion) when it comes to describing the ideal user. (To any Hoover folks reading this, the list I gave at the top of my review would probably garner you a lot more business - especially from full-time RVers!)Finally, I think the price point is a little high. Granted, it is a Hoover and does have a wide variety of attachments. But $119 is going to be too high a price for the pet owner for whom this is ideal.Sharing Life's Abundance,~Cindy

buy this -- wonderful piece of kit
The battery for my Linx stick vacuum was down to half capacity (over 5? years with frequent use) so I looked at buying a new battery. Whelp, for not much more, I got a hand vac which obviously includes a new battery. I am so impressed with the new hand vac. The included power head makes short work of pet hair clinging to my sofa, bedding, etc. I have yet to try the two other heads that came with this.If you have a pet that sheds, buy this -- wonderful piece of kit. This does not replace a full sized vacuum, but rather serves two functions: 1) saves on expensive bags by removing bulky stuff; allows you to do a quick vacuum on a daily basis because they are so ruddy convenient.Love it.

Review of the Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vac
Positives: easy and very convenient to use, works well, has lots of suction power. Love the various attachments especially the power brush head. I like the battery capacity remaining charge indicator. The Li-Ion battery is far superior to the NiCad battery in my previous cordless vac as the suction power does not diminish as the battery discharges. Shipped within 3 days of ordering. Negatives: removing and re-installing the dirt cup is very difficult because the cup is a smooth plastic material and requires me to wear grip gloves in order to develop enough friction/torque to twist the cup between the lock and unlock position.

Handy for small jobs
I bought this a couple months ago and am very happy with this vac. I saw some people in other reviews complained about the noise -- I find it much quieter than our old hand-vac, although you wouldn't carry on a conversation when using this, unless you wanted to really raise your voice. Love the fact that it maintains full power until it dies, my old hand vac (I forget the brand)ran on NiCd batteries and would gradually fade, making it less and less effective. This one I get full power for 10 or 15 mins until it suddenly stops. Recharges in a few hours, which is nice.
