The 3.5mm on the mic is just to test how you sound, i’ve never tested it in game. It’s a solid mic with great quality and it’s worth the money

how closes do you have to be when talking?

I use it almost near my mouth with pup filter on it as a gamer, but you can easily use it like idk 3 meter away and ppl will hear. It also depend on setting
