Faster/safer than traditional axe
Nice mid-sized unit. Easy to transport and set up. Quickly produced small mountain of fire pit friendly kindling from previously split logs. Bit of a leaning curve; definitely a need heaver maul or sledge to deliver an effective blow. Found myself wishing for more items to split (lol). No worries of misfires and trip to ED (or worse)

almost perfect
I'm very happy with this purchase, the splitter is very sturdy and very easy to use. This certainly is much safer than swinging an axe. I took one star off because the distance from the top of the blade to the ground is about 9 or 10", so that's all that it will split. I find I need to turn the wood over and then split it from the other side too. I think this would work better if it were a bit taller, or perhaps set up on a stand.

Better than I expected..
For months I was considering getting one of those hand pump wood splitters. But even at $100+ I thought I could get a better value elsewhere so I ordered this and I’m extremely happy. I already have an 8 pound mail/sledge but much of my wood is cut off and thus the mail cannot safely split the wood. But with this I can use very minimal effort and still split the wood. I just took a couple 2x6’s and used some pocket screen to connect them side to side and then screwed this down to them for a portable splitter. Set the wood in and just using gravity to almost set the sledge onto it to set the wood onto the blade and maybe 1 or 2 decent swings the wood is easily and safely split and added to the pile for some fire pits. Anyone considering this would be happy if you already have a way to smack that wood through the slot. Keep in mind most of my wood is oak or pine and is 3+ years old so it is fairly dried out already. Only down rated the stability for ‘as is’. Like I said I listed to a couple 2x6 and it’s extremely stable

It works well. Be patient, watch some videos on using it
Once you get the hang of this thing, it works really well. There are reviews saying it doesn't work but I swear it's just that they haven't figured out how to best go about it yet (or are trying to split wood that's too large). I recommend watching a couple youtubes of people using it, because there are some good tips on using it right. I used mine for the first time a week or so ago, went through about 3 wheel barrows of logs that were roughly 10 inches across and split them into pieces that were 3-4 inches across - had a blast. Here are the tips I'd pass on:1) This works best when secured to a stump or something. That it stays stationary when you whack at the wood is pretty important to it working well (and safely). The holes to attach it are pretty wide though, so get some nice 5/6 x 4, 5 or 6 hex nut screws and wasahers and use a drill with a hex bit to drill them in.2) The circumference of this thing is pretty big. I'm glad that I know I can fit almost any piece of wood in there, but any hero who is going to put a log the full diameter in there and think it'll split, is likely fooling him/herself. I found this worked best splitting logs that were about 10 inches or less in diameter, and also worked best if I kept a small log in the splitter at all times and rested the pieces I was cutting against it.3) You should try to stick to pieces that aren't much taller than the unit itself, otherwise you risk getting pieces stuck because they don't split all the way through before they get stopped by the ground/stump4) You should use a small sledge hammer just to tap start the piece onto the blade but then step back and use a large sledge to split it. Good to keep a small hatchet handy as well as some pieces will split most of the way but need to be finished with an small axe5) Listen to heavy metal music while you split. Trust me, even if you're someone who thinks metal only has a certain time and place, this is that time.6) Someone recommended this in a video I saw and I agree - it's best if you position the wood where one side is sorta flush against the inside of the splitter (i.e. rather than centering the wood on the blade, you cut on one side of the blade).7) Try to split with the grain8) Buy a sharpening file or stone (the makers of this thing are missing a big extra revenue opportunity by not selling separately both the hardware to mount it to a stump and a sharpener). Again, mine is pretty new so it's plenty sharp now, but keeping it sharp for each use is definitely gonna be key for smooth splitting Have fun!

Don’t miss!
Worked ok until I missed with the small sledge and it broke. Looked well built but probably won’t last. Could be taller too you can only split about half way down a standard log. Returning and going with a different brand.

Excellent tool to have on your property
This tool is great to have on your property. We take down a lot of trees and cut the wood here, and while I am not a strong person, I am able to split some of it for kindling using this cutter. The ring holds the wood while the sledgehammer sends it over the blade. We affixed it to a stump in the yard so it doesn't move when hit. This is great exercise for me, and a good way to go out and hit something :)

Great quality
Very sturdy and love that it comes with a guard for the sharp edge when not in use.

Wood splitter
Saw this on Pinterest. Wasn’t sure it was real. Found one at Canadian Tire that was a bit smaller at the top and more money. Decided to take the chance. It has been better than I could have expected. They suggest a 3 pound mallet which I also got. Perfect weight. Easy to use, less chance of hurting yourself and safe around kids! I loved my big ax but this is easier and faster!!

Life is now easy
Just used this on our first of the year camping trip and I can’t say enough how great it is. Always chopped wood with an axe and hatchet which sent wood flying all over,, with this thing it stays right where you split it and best thing is I can do it sitting down with minimal effort,,, also so much more accurate with making kindling,,,, a must have at any campfire,, I was the envy of all my neighbours

Waste of time
Blade is blunt, metal is soft and not not suitable for cutting wood.
