James Horner - The Classics

Wonderful renditions of classic themes
First off I’m going to address the other reviews saying that they didn’t know these were covers. IT SAYS IT, reading descriptions first does wonders. Now for the review of the music, I figure most people that are 80s-90s music fans are going to be familiar with most of these. Tiny Guo does a couple pieces on here that are flat out better than the originals. The Wrath of Khan track was quite good as well. The Czech National Orchestra does a lot of the back music for these tracks and if you’re familiar with them, then you know it’s top notch playing.I’d recommend this if your a James Horner fan, I think he’d be pretty impressed by this collection of work.

What a bait & switch
I thought I was getting the original music of James Horner by the original artists. Instead I get 2nd or 3rd string performers. Hate the fact that I purchased this.

This is a must have for any soundtrack collector. We lost a musical genius way too soon. :(

A Respectful Reimagining with Exceptional Performances
I have been a James Horner fan for decades, so I know these pieces like old friends. The changes in instrumentation from original scores are respectful of the tone and character of the music. The recording and the musicianship are superb. I recommend this album unequivocally.

Very bad impressions of James Horner Classics
What was Sony thinking when they recorded this album? They have changed so much of the key instruments that Horner liked to use in his music. My Heart Will Go On is ok, Rooftop Kiss is terrible with the piano being replaced by harp. Willow, crap, and so on. They should have called this CD , James Horner Classics on trumpet as that instrument is way to present in these recordings. It is bad, avoid at any cost.EDIT: I have tried to listen to this album a couple more times, and still most of the tracks I have to skip. The only tracks that are good are the songs that are instrumental (Titanic, Avatar, An American Tale). Still unlistenable are Willow, Star Trek II, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (especially this one is very very bad) and Apollo 13.

The perfect tribute to our James !
What delightful interpretations of James’ scores !Each track is a wonderful classical version of JH’s amazingly beautiful and deeply moving scores.Pristine classical sound and performance, blending with innovative interpretations and supported by talented musical performance of some of his best known scores.Given that James was a classically trained composer, I am very sure he would have loved this and be deeply touched by the professional musicianship in evidence throughout this classical collection.Well done Sony Classical and thanks so much for making such delightful interpretations available to us all.

Great CDS all the great scores with a twist.
Great CD just what I was expecting as I have similar discs already. If you like the film music of James Horner this is a slightly different take on those great tunes but similar enough to the original not to spoil them.
