AWESOME PCIE 3.0 Expansion card for 4 M.2โs
THIS.. is Asus Pcie expansion for M.2 and it was a great, convenient product from a brand you trust! This Pcie expansion card fits 4 M.2 cards HOWEVER!! It is at Pcie 3.0 and not 4 so please do not waste your money on newer M.2โs and just get the best value Pcie 3.0 M.2. This product is perfect for a pcie expansion! It comes with everything you will need INCLUDING the retaining screws. It is well built in a polished metal, easy to assemble and comes with thermal pads attached to the housing so it all runs cool. This expansion card gave me exactly what I needed and looks great in my system! With the ability to keep throwing M.2โs in my system I no longer have to worry about sata cables, opening up the back of my case and managing that demon. This has been a great product for my computer, and I am sure you will find this as another great asus product just like I have!

As expected
I needed one of these to add NVME drives to an older server I run Unraid on. It took some time getting the BIOS for the motherboard configured right, but I have two 4TB Acer NVME drives installed, the OS recognizes them as allowed me to use them as a combined cache pool. Speeds are great, the fan helps keep them cool during stress periods. No complaints at this time.

Know your motherboard
So the main thing to know about this device is that you need to be able to split your pcie bus or whatever into multiple different channels, so to speak. In my case, my motherboard can only split the pcie 16 bus into 8x8 which means I can only use 2 hard drives in this thing. That's not bad though. Look. I have entirely Crucial m.2 nvme drives, just of varying generations. In most of my testing, they are basically equivalent to each other. The newer ones (the ones in this product) are newer, but in my previous testing, while better, they aren't a huge amount better. That said, the first image you see is the result of a single crucial m2 nvme drive mounted directly on my motherboard... The second image you see is of 2 of basically the same m2 nvme drives mounted on this device, using a striped volume, using 8x8. This card is capable of 4x4x4x4, and I am only using it at 8x8, which is overkill for the drives. There's probably notes to be made about the free space or how much older exactly the single m2 drive is, but the difference is stark. Having a 2nd drive didn't just double the speed, it more than tripled it. I will put it this way. My next motherboard will be capable of 4x4x4x4 so I can use this card in an even better mode. I am going to build around this device because it's that good.

Works Well Once Installed, but the Extras Don't Match the Price
The ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 V2 ultimately does what it's supposed to do and provides reliable NVMe expansion, but I expected a better overall experience considering the premium price compared to competing cards. Compatibility was good, and once everything was installed and configured, the card worked reliably with all of my NVMe drives. Performance was exactly what I expected, with drives running at full speed when used on a system that supports PCIe bifurcation. However, the installation experience could have been better. The thermal pads were somewhat frustrating to install, especially when working with multiple drives. I was also surprised that screws weren't included, which feels like an unnecessary oversight on a product in this price range. One of my biggest complaints is the lighting. The bright green LEDs are always on and much brighter than necessary. If your system is in a bedroom, office, or other dark environment, they can be distracting. I also had to contact customer support, and the experience was not great. Getting assistance took more effort than it should have, especially for a product from a premium brand. That said, the card is functional, reliable, and performs as advertised once everything is assembled. If you're already invested in the ASUS ecosystem, it may be a reasonable choice. However, given the higher price, I expected a smoother installation experience and better included accessories. Worked perfectly. But can only fit 2 Samsung 990 SSDs with heat sinks.
Installed 2 Samsung 990 4TB NVMe SSD using this expansion card. My unit is a HP Z840 workstation. WARNING: As I bought the 990 SSDs with heat sinks, the SSDS DO NOT fit side by side on the expansion card. Also, it not possible to attach the expansion card cover either (when using heatsinked 990s). I had to use slots 1 and 3 on the expansion card. In any case, Bios detected both SSDs and I was still able to bifurcate 4x4x4x4 and subsequently create the RAID. The expansion card was inserted into the PCIe slot without its cover. To repeat, this card will only take 2 Samsung 990 SSDs with heatsinks. If you need 4, then buy the SSDs without heatsinks. This may apply to other SSDs also. Everything else is working perfectly.

If you know what this is buy this one
I got this card because the options were few and far between for a card of this size at the time of perches. I looked at just about every card available that I could find and just because you see cards on YouTube doesn't mean there available. So I went with this card figuring I always had good luck with ASUS. The card worked as expected the build quality of the card itself looked well built and clean witch is nice because I'm sticking a good amount of hardware on to it. The heat sink is brushed aluminum with a nice logo on the side the shroud looks good in my case because I have a black and silver theme. The shroud is pretty thin not much bigger than the PCI slot it self. The card can block airflow from you GPU you do have room just not like you used to. My main concern for myself was would this card fit in the PCI slot with my M.2 Heat sink sticking up so high and the answer is yes the card fit over my M.2 Heat sink it's so tight it actually touches but the card is locked in and every thing works fine with no problem. Putting this card together and installing it was real easy anyone can do it and if you don't know how to activate your new drive after install you can watch a video on YouTube on how to do that as well.

Good performance, but make sure that your motherboard can support it
I bought this and two Crucial T500 NVME modules ( without heat spreader ) that I configured in a RAID1 mirror. The modules are pcie 4.0 capable, but my computer only has pcie3.0 which is limiting the performance. Still, I am seeing large block reads peak at 6435 and writes at 3144 MB/s. By comparison, a single mid-range SATA SSD gave 558 and 507 MB/s. This is where pcie NVME shines. For random access the drives will be the limiting factor and even SATA overhead becomes secondary. As others have said, your motherboard _must_ support pcie bifurcation to use more than one NVME drive, and you must have a full-width ( x16 ) spare slot with enough pcie lanes for the number of drives that you want to install. For one NVME drive you could get by with a pcie x4 slot. For two, an x8 slot _and_ bifurcation support is required, and for three or four an x16 slot _and_ bifurcation support. Note that the physical width of the slot is not a guarantee of having enough lanes - check the documentation on your computer or motherboard. Many, many motherboards have only a single x16 slot which is typically used for the graphics card, and an x8 slot, then either nothing more or a very small one. The Xeon boards or systems designed for workstation use are likely to be well equipped. Some new graphics cards with pcie 4.0 get by with an x8, which would allow this NVME card to use the x16. Keep in mind that any network card faster than 1G will also need at least an x4 slot. I should add that these modules were configured in a mirror using Intel's VROC, and the motherboard has a VROC dongle to enable the functionality. The computer boots from this mirror without needing any other drives. One caveat: the board is pretty heavy due to the aluminum heatsink. It is not exactly secure in a pcie socket but should be fine if the system is not being moved around. Second caveat: the system's drive LED is not connected to this module and never goes on when it is being accessed

Well worth it for (reduced) price, does what it says on the tin.
Not much to complain about, got the gen3 unit refurbished since it was $40 to use in my current Epyc test box which is soon to be a proxmox machine. Was going to go with 2 sata boot drives and 2 m.2 for VM storage but with this I can boot off M.2 and use 2 more for VM's with 2 spare slots for whatever I might want to do ad I don't think I'll need gen4 speeds for what this machine will be doing. I have another 'no name' 4x gen 3 adapter and that one also works fine but with no fan on it some drives could get uncomfortably warm, I'll find some use for that somewhere else. And yes you need bifurcation on your motherboard for this to work, otherwise you need a significantly more expensive switched unit. Even at $60 this would be a good buy but if you want a gen4 unit get the gen5 instead, as of right now (Feb 2024) they are either the same price or the gen5 is cheaper but still almost double the price of the gen3 version.

It does exactly what it says. Grwat build quality.
Can't go wrong with this if you want to add more nvme storage to your PC. Awesome build quality and pretty much requires zero configuration besides enabling NVME RAID MODE in the BIOS (depending on your motherboard).

Works great with two drives & discrete GPU on Z370!
There seems to be a lot of misinformation about this card and I hope that my experience will help to clear up some of the thud! Note that I am not using Intel or other supported drives so I will not cover VROC here and my aim with this card was to simply add some additional NVME drives to my system. Firstly, for this card to work with more than one drive you will need a motherboard & a version of BIOS that supports PCI Bifurcation. I'm using this card in a Maximus X Hero (Wifi-AC) Z370 motherboard with BIOS 2203 (2019/10/17). The Maximus X Hero supports PCI Bifurcation on PCIEX16/8_1 or PCIEX8_2. As I'm using a discrete GPU in the first slot I have the Hyper M.2 card plugged into PCIEX8_2. PCI Bifurcation "splits" the x8 slot into 2 x4, thus supporting 2 x NVME drives. If I was not using a discrete GPU then I would be able to support 4 x NVME drives in my system. If you need to support 4 drives and a discrete CPU then you'll need X299 or an NVME carrier card with a PLX chip such as the one's from HighPoint $$$! My GPU is now running at x8 not x16 due to the limited PCI Express lanes on Z370. I also have an Asus PCE-AC88 Wifi card connected to the system along with NVME drives in each of the two motherboard M.2 slots. As other reviews have covered, the build quality of the card is simply excellent, basically it's a large, very nicely machined aluminium heatsink. I have the internal fan disabled as it can be a little noisy but I also don't find that it is required. I live in Asia with an ambient temperature of over 30 Degrees yet my Intel 660p and Adata SX8200 Pro peak at 46 degrees. Overall this is a fantastic card for adding additional drives to systems that support PCI Bifurcation!
