Director Tony Coleman and producer Margaret Meagher travelled the world for two years to discover why so many people of different nations, cultures, ages and musical tastes are turning to the ukulele to express themselves, and to connect with each other. This fascinating documentary is packed with music and includes performances from many artists, including Jake Shimabukuro. An official selection of several prestigious film festivals, it's been featured on National Public Radio, Canada's National Radio Network, as well as in broadcast and print media throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The DVD is packed with bonus features, including ten additional short films about the ukulele, and a lesson with virtuoso and educator James Hill.

This is such a joyous DVD! Ukes conquering the world!!!
I played uke in my childhood and teen years. That was eons ago, but i picked it up again because a wonderful music teacher started a uke band in my community. We are having such a great time together, learning and relearning this remarkable little instrument. MIGHTY UKE is one happy chapter after another...showing all kinds of players in all kinds of places--all ages!! I just keep playing it because it is such a super distraction from the news that engulfs us today. The DVD makes you smile and relax and laugh and marvel at the phenomenal talent of some of the players on the disc, especially junior high school students who have mastered not only strumming the uke but picking it melodically. Amazing!!!

Uku-mentary!
This DVD is a must for every music class. It's not just about Jake Shimabukaro. It's about the history of the ukulele, development, ups and downs of popularity, Hawaiian connection from Portugal, many styles, and a fine story of a high school ukulele class who raises money and prepares material every year to tour Hawaii. Well-made, well-rounded film with a lot of color and will keep the interest of anyone regardless of age or musical acumen. This one is especially good for teachers (music or otherwise) to keep on hand for class when the lesson plan isn't quite ready. Every uker should have this one. It's the kind of film you can watch several times a year and always enjoy and learn something new.

Great documentary that will make you want to start playing.
This is a great documentary about the revival of the ukulele. It has a few ebb and flows throughout the video...but when it loses steam, it picks back up again. It also shows some of the virtuoso ukulele players of our time--and their eccentricity isn't hidden (any virtuoso will be eccentric by nature). If you are interested in the ukulele, or are going to be teaching the ukulele, this is a great resource. If you watch this video, be forewarned: you're going to want to go and buy a ukulele.

might Uke
Bought as a gift for my husband - long time guitar player - who became interested in the Uke since discovering George Harrrison's fascination for them. It arrived on time and I sat down to watch it with him and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! Absolutely incredible the music that can be performed on them. NOt just a gag thing - like with Tiny Tim. There are actually interest groups all over who get together to share their love of music and this instrument. Highly recommended!

A Uke DVD that will open your eyes and ears
The Mighty Uke DVD is an eye opener for those who have given little thought to this much maligned instrument - like me. The DVD will just take you away into another world where uke virtuosos will make their instruments sing in a way you never thought imaginable. Your journey will also give you some of the history of the uke and along the way as you meet many, many talented musicians. Very entertaining, informative and inspiring!

Disappointing
The DVD is broken into separate video's which takes lots of time and effort to play. Not what I expected.

Brilliant and enjoyable.
I have watched the main film on Sky several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pleased to find the dvd and the bonus items. The school uke orchestra should be tried in the UK seeing how much it means to the pupils involved. Somehow I just can’t see it working here though. Enthusiasm shows throughout the whole dvd.

A very good historical and musical outline of the growth and maintained interest in the instrument known as the ukulele

This is great fun!
This is a wonderful, potted history of a much maligned instrument. I will put my cards on the table right now: I'm a big fan who's learning to play. If you like the uke, you'll probably like this. If you don't like the uke, have a look; you might be converted.
