Really Disappointed!
I've owned 1" and 3/4" Gold 'N Hot curling irons for years. Quite literally, I've had the same irons for over 10 years, with no problems, excellent heat up time, and great temperature settings. Even though the design of the iron has changed, I expected the same quality I'd become accustomed to.What happened? This iron is a mystery to me. It almost 3x the size of my 1", doesn't nearly heat up as well, and instead of the "1-10" settings with a separate off switch, it has temperatures! What is that about? I can put my old curling irons - and my current Maxius flat iron - on 5 or 6 depending on my hair day and I'm fine. This thing I had to crank up to 400 degrees - which is the maximum setting - to get the same heat AND because the barrel measures about 6 1/2" in diameter (I had to take out my tape measure as it clearly appears larger than 2"), I'm getting a bend, not a curl, and my hair is down to the middle of my back, so I do have the length for an iron this size even at 6".My biggest disappointment is that I took for granted that because of its name, it would do what I wanted, so I ripped the box up and cannot send it back for a refund. What a bummer. The only up side is that it will straighten small sections of hair at a time (which is too time consuming for me as my hair is also thick) and is good for lifting the roots on certain styles... which is the only thing I will really be able to use this for since I use my Maxius irons for all my straightening needs. However, the point was to get a CURLING iron, not a flat or straightening iron. HELLO! The name should imply what I'm buying!!!I have to admit: depending on YOUR hair type, this may work for you. So, try it, you may like it. But, I am really disappointed in Gold 'N Hot! Whatever happened to: if it ain't broke, don't fix it? They should have left the original irons alone (I bought my other irons back when the company first starting producing these). All these years contemplating the purchase of a 2", and this is what I get? What a big let down... literally on this 6" barrel!

NO AUTO SHUT OFF
I should have been more thorough before making my purchase. I do love the heat control and large barrel but it doesn’t glide through hair easily. You MUST remember to turn it off when your done because it doesn’t have AUTO SHUT OFF if you forget.

My favorite curling iron.
I have purchased four or five of these curling irons over the past 3-4 years. This is the best ceramic curling iron I've found for the price (I've neve spent more than $50). However, with this latest purchase (11/2007), I don't think the iron gets as hot as it used to...probably not a big deal for most, but my hair is coarse and naturally wavy so the heat is needed to make it smooth and soft. Note that irons that get extremely hot such as this last a maximum of a year (I use mine maybe 4-5 days/week). The gold does peel off under the clamp after a while. Better than any ceramic I've purchased at the drug store.

Not what I expected
Yes, it is hot enough, and I learned to adjust the heat so as not to fry my hair (because you can with this), but it is not creating the curl at the ends that I was hoping for. It may be that it is one size too big, but how would I know? Normally one curling iron works for both of my styles. Not this time, and I can't tell you why..... I do have coarse hair, and if you're having trouble with irons that do not get hot enough, this one will end that. If you're looking for a little definition curl at the end of medium length hair, though, this may not be it.

How to measuring curling irons?
The Gold N Hot products I have used have been wonderful. But I have a slight problem with this product received today. Help? The size is an issue. This size is too large for me. Confused! The box states 1-1/2", which I understood to be the circumference of the barrel. The item I received today measures 5 inches around. How and where should I measure to get the 1-1/2 as stated on the box? Please respond quickly so that I can exchange for another size. Thank You.

Disappointed
Really disappointed in this product. I have been a Gold N Hot user for many years--love their products so I was looking forward to receiving this curling iron. I was looking for a good curling iron that offers some protection from the harsh heat of a regular curling iron. What I got was an iron that Does Not Curl! The temp settings allow you to go up to 400+ but no matter what the temp, this iron does not curl my hair. Granted, my hair is thick but unlike the other Gold N Hot curling irons, it barely makes a dent. Guess I'll continue to use my old standby Hot N Gold irons. My advice--Don't buy unless you have very thin hair.

Exactly what I had been looking for
I had been looking for this 2" curing iron for a couple of years but couldn't find one in any local stores in my area. I was thrilled to find it on line and at such a good price. When you just want a loose curl or wave, this is what you need. The vendor shipped the item quickly but when I opened it, they had shipped the wrong item. I e-mail and they QUICKLY e-mailed me back that they were shipping the correct item out that day and were paying for me to send the original item back. How professional in their response - I appreciated this.

2 inch barrels are great!!!!
I really like this curling iron...- and you definitely can't beat the price! It heats up very quickly, and gives me great curls. The key to working with large barrel curls are to use a mouse or cream to texturize your hair. Then, after you curl, make sure to take a blowdryer on cold/low setting to lock the curls down. I always receive so many compliments on my hair!!!
