McClean Design: Creating the Contemporary House

An extremely well done book presenting the work of Paul McLean‘s modernness house design in Southern California. The first book actually is his early work through maybe 2018 I think. I’ve also purchased the second book which is some of his latest work. Both books are really well done with photography, which is excellent if not exceptional. And he has detailed floorplans of the projects which are very helpful and understanding exactly what he’s designing. Some of his houses can be difficult to understand if you don’t look at the context of a floor plan because they’re on very steep sites in the hills of Hollywood.

Wasn’t really what I expected one of the things I have noticed, also the book didn’t have pictures of walk-in closets and garages

I got this book as a gift for Dad's day - McClean Design is an amazing firm, and Paul McClean's attention to the elements of good design, balancing solid and void, paying attention to visual interest in all of his elevations, and then in the interior design features is just mind boggling. Some of his best works - for me - were the smaller homes in Laguna Beach that get closer to what most of us know as an average American home. I think most of us would also be appreciative if McClean Design would marry sustainability with awesome design!

I ordered this book for my coffee and the book contains some great design ideas and is a great read so far. The book is made of good quality and appears well made.

I dont like it there is no more photos

Paul McClean is an amazing architect that designs homes in all sizes and different areas but mostly in California. The book has many beautiful pictures of homes that range in size from a few thousand square feet to a 30,000 square foot home in Bel Air that’s on the market for 180 million dollars. All of the homes have floor plans of the main floors which is great in that it shows how the spaces flow from one area to the next. It you love contemporary homes this book is a must have.

Can't afford a home by McClean but I can dream over the photos in this gorgeous book

Fab!!! Absolutely love it. Beautiful, crystal clear photos. Whilst suited to hotter countries than the UK (due to better weather and views), there’s no reason why you couldn’t be inspired and build these designs in the UK. Was half expecting to enjoy the front cover image and then be disappointed when I opened the book but but not at all. Page after page of fantastic architecture and originality. How refreshing. Favourite book owned on this subject. I’d be happy building everyone of the properties showcased. This book shows floor layouts as well as excellent photography at all times of the day. A book that would inspire Architects of all levels as I feel they would benefit from the modernism portrayed throughout. Now to find a big plot, get drawings done and apply for Planning Permission.....
