Family sets goals and succeeds!
I loved how the author was able to develop characters in this short story. It was refreshing to see a family work together in hard times, making a plan and setting goals, rather than complain and remain in their tough time. I was fortunate enough to meet the author, and that is why I ordered this book, and her book entitled Piecing It All Together. I have enjoyed both, and gave my grandson Sweet Potato Pie to read to his class.

Water Damaged During Shipment...
As odd as this might sound, I ordered this book as a surprise present for my girlfriend; this was one of her favorite books to read when she was younger and has said in the past that she wished her baby brother could grow up with a book from her past. This and a romantic dinner out were going to be a small anniversary present to her, but upon opening up the package the morning after it arrived, I found a portion of every page water damaged somehow. The packaging itself was sealed tight and showed no signs of any sort of damage, but the book itself is still moist to the touch even as I am writing this now. I would love to give this a higher rated review; it's not a bad book, but I did not pay for a damaged product. Someone somewhere somehow managed to successfully send damaged goods without catching it; it's not like this is invisible ink we're talking about here...

Great for kids
My 2nd grade students loved this book. They connected to the characters & were overjoyed by their success. The teacher's guide that can be found online has great ideas for teachers & parents alike.
