Work testing my cooled down maple syrup
Easy to use! Came with some calibrating oil which smelled up the whole house. Checked my maple syrup after I calibrated it and it was 67 brix (cold syrup) don’t test boiling hot syrup. I like it and I am happy with it. Just not thrilled about the calibration oil smell.

Waste of money!!!
There is a reason why it is 1/3 rd of the price from bee store. Can't calibrate it with liquid provided, measurments all over the place. Not accurate at all. Haven't used it for 30 days since bought it, now can't return because 30 days return policy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I don't know what did lapa krapp is on Plastic cover but I don't think it's supposed to be there obviously no quality control wouldn't buy another one

Likely a second!
Lens surface was damaged. No box. There's the reason it is 1/3 the cost over my bee keeper's store.

Easy to use and accurate.
First off, let me mention the nice build quality. It's got a good solid feel to it. I've had other refractometers that have felt almost like toys. That being said, the real test is in how it works.1. It's easy to calibrate. It comes with a small bottle of dioptric oil and a polished glass reference block. Following the clear, well-written instructions, I had the tool calibrated in minutes.2. It seems to be quite accurate. I know many beekeepers will buy this to test their honey, but I use it to measure the sugar content of fruit and the moisture level in jams to ensure consistent results across batches as I make various jams and jellies through the season. Immediately after unpacking and calibrating the refractometer, I made a couple of kettles of strawberry jam, checking the batch as I went along. The tool performed as expected.3. It's easy to focus. I can use it with or without my glasses because the focus range is more than adequate.4. It's easy to clean. The kit comes with a small cleaning cloth which is rather thin, nonabsorbant and useless, but with a good soft cotton dishcloth or microfiber wipe the testing material cleans up perfectly.

Seems to do the job very well.
I got this specifically to measure water % in my newly harvested honey. It arrived with everything you need incl. a very simple user manual briefly explaining how to use it and how to calibrate it. Mine arrived already calibrated, which you of course do not know until you have checked the calibration first but I think they are all calibrated from the factory so unless they get knocked about during transit they should work straight out of the box.It is a simple to use instrument. Put a thin layer of honey evenly covering the oblong panel. Press the clear plastic flap over and press it firmly onto the honey. Point the instrument towards bright daylight, or a lightbulb, and take the reading through the eyepiece. If needed focus the ring on the eyepiece until the scale is in focus for your eyesight. Clean off the honey with a clean damp cloth and dry with a clean tea towel. It seems to be a fairly well made instrument but not a heavy duty instrument, so it should be handled with care and stored in the included case to avoid damage when not in use.NOTE: I am not aware if it can be used to measure water % in set honey, or granulated honey, but suspect that the crystals might throw of the accuracy.
