I purchased this book used and am very pleased with the company I bought from. The book arrived and had been very gently used. I needed this book for a class. It is an irritating book. Written in 1841 in Cuba the language is that of the period of Romanticism; it is flowery and its characters are just too entrenched to see their way out of slavery and marriage, even when freedom is handed them. It's not light reading, having been translated from 2 sources. If you have to read it just dive in and get it over with.

Poetic
Sublime writing with beatiful poetic wording. Excellent story which made me weep. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys the feel of elegant words.

boring and uneventful
This book may be the perfect example of 1850's Cuban literature, but it is incredibly dry and boring. The who book feels like filler for the last chapter, this could have and should have been a short story that also would have been very boring and predictable. I am a History major reading this for a 400 level history class and i typically enjoy the books that i have to read but that was not the case here.

A once banned book that is worth reading.
This book is remarkable given the time period in which it was written and the fact that it was a very much banned book because of much of its content. A book which argued that mulattos should be considered real people was pretty edgy for its time. Definitely worth reading though it's a less well known (well, currently) book than many other banned books.

Anticuada y flojita
Una visión de Cuba muy personal de su autora y que centrandse en sus vivencias románticas ,descuida el entorno colonial real y transcurre en las nubes
