Description

  • Good quality product.
  • Made in UK.
Juglans regia, common Walnut, is native to much of the Americas South East Europe and South East Asia. These trees have been cultivated in the Uk. for many hundreds of years. They are prized for their superior quality wood, delicious nuts and beautiful ornamental stature. A medium to large, deciduous, slow growing tree with a characteristic rounded head and architectural large pinnate leaves, bronze when emerging, lush green in summer, turning an attracive yellow in autumn. Male flowers are in drooping catkins and the female flowers are terminal, in clusters of two to five, ripening in the autumn into a fruit with a green, semiy husk and a brown, corrugated edible walnut. Young trees have a slivery bark which becomes bronzed and fissured with maturity. It prefers a full sun location in fertile soil. Please be aware that most other s will not grow under Juglans trees as the fallen leaves and husks contains Juglone, a natural icide. Horses should not be allowed to eat the fruit which is believed to cause laminitis. A lovely tree for the large garden or estate. It can be container grown but will eventually require a very large container with good quality soil based compost.
