Crazy, Intriguing NUMA Files story
"Polar Shift" is the perfect Clive Cussler novel. Lots of wise-cracking between Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala (main characters), twisted/evil villains, threat to the world, a lovely scientist, an eccentric scientist, and a whole lot of tech stuff that I don't quite understand. But that's part of the fun of a good Cussler novel. Just hang in for the wild ride. And this book delivers the roller coaster (and a whirlpool). Recommended.

Nearly unforgivable mistake
I have really enjoyed all of the Dirk Pitt, Kurt Austin adventures but Polar Shift has a major irritant for me. while Paul And Gamay Trout are in Rio de Janeiro, Gamay "speaks perfect Spanish" as she talks to a security Guard at a naval Port in RIO! Why would she speak Spanish to a Brazilian security guard and not Portuguese? I am Brazilian and many people seem to think that Spanish and Portuguese are "alike", well, let me put that to rest, while I MIGHT catch a few words when someone speaks Spanish. if I was in Brazil and someone started blabbing at me in Spanish it would be a lot more likely that i would be irritated and would definitely not allow a couple of American "tourists" to go wandering about the port. I find it hard to believe that such a bone head mistake would've made it past Clive Cussler and the proof readers. other than that I really enjoyed the book. Same thing happens in the movies when English speaking Brazilian characters have hispanic accents and anyone who has been around English speaking Brazilians WILL hear an accent but it most certainly not be a hispanic accent

POLAR SHIFT THRILLS ON A SEISMIC SCALE!
A famous earth scientist goes missing during WW 2. Years later, a cargo ship is sunk by mountain high tidal waves during calm weather, and Orcas, large docile whales attack Kurt, and other boaters during a kayak race for no appearent reason. It is up to Kurt Austin, and his partner Joe Zavala to figure out the connection between these seemingly unrelated events, and find out how to stop them before they destroy all life on earth! In each succeeding Numa Files novel, Cussler continues to develop the character, and personalities of his two heroes, Kurt Austin, and Joe Zavala, without turning them into carbin copies of his earlier heroes, Dirk, and Al. Action packed adventure, with likable fleshed out heroes keeps Cussler at the top of the hill, as UNDISPUTED MASTER OF ADVENTURE, and POLAR SHIFT is one of his best!

Good, but not so Good
Nice book if you’re looking for an addictive one. It’s the kind of writing that gets you hooked to it until you’ve finished.Gave it a 3 star because it’s clear that the author thinks mostly about giving the reader a good experience rather than reliable information about the themes he goes through. It gets somewhat annoying when you’re seeing wrong information in the book and start wondering what else could be wrong while reading it.The two mistakes I found was that in the end there’s a scene in Rio de Janeiro where he says they speak Spanish instead of Portuguese (and there’s a big difference!) and another one was that he was talking about an aircraft’s rate of climb being slow of about 100ft/second - which is more than a rocket! That’d probably be 100ft/minute.Other than that, a good addictive book. The plot is good and the characters are very well described. The theme of Polar Reversals is a fascinating one which could explain some of the meteorological changes we're experiencing! Wish the book could be more reliable though.

Polar Shift Fact and Fiction
This story rings so many bells for me. The fact that it has actually happened in the past is extraordinary in itself, but to know it could happen again, and soon, well it beggars belief. However you cut it, the story line is so apposite. So many elements come together in this book to make a really gripping plot and how I wish I could meet up with Kurt and Joe, the two lead characters and get them working on the reality now, here. Clive Cussler always seems to put together a really fast paced page turning book and the characters are always believable and attractive. The NUMA series deals primarily with the oceans and seas of the world, but does not stop there. There are so many instances in the stories and in real life where the sea impacts the whole environment we live in and our created environment that we have imposed on the earth over milennia equally impacts on the oceans and seas. It is no wonder the books are so readable, they could so easily become reality. A great read and I highly recommend the Polar Shift story, read it soon because we could be living it for real one day soon and then it will be too late to enjoy it, you will be too busy surviving!!

👍
Excellent as always. It's a shame he's passed away. It will be interesting to see if Mr Boyd writes in the same vein.
