Dear Abba: Morning and Evening Prayer

I enjoyed picking up this book as part of my morning devotions and to end the day. Manning’s thoughts and prayers are so relatable. I will reread it, these prayers are a treasure.

Probably asking the wrong person for a review on Brennan Manning. I am the child and he the teacher and he causes me to love Jesus more. The first book I read of his...The Ragamuffin ....causes me to sit at his feet and lean into Jesus...Brennan is so humble and so very honest...I meet me as I also do in the Bible when I read it.I have shared some of this on my fb with my family and friends...not that they all read...but anyone can get a blessing even unaware.

I like the layout. On one page the Bible verse and excerpts from his writings and the opposite side a prayer; you have a devotional one for the morning one for the evening , perfect to begin and end the day.

I'm currently deployed and I have my ups and downs, but these morning and evening prayers and devotions seem to get me SPOT ON every day. I love how much wisdom the author has and that he includes bible verses and your own tailored prayer for the day. Perfect way to begin and end the day when you don't always wake up thinking everything is going to be okay. GREAT for busy people, because it is rarely short and sweet.

This is a 31-day devotional with a morning and evening reading for each of the days. It's brief, a short scripture followed by a few paragraphs from one of his books and then a short prayer.It's brief but so powerful. Especially the prayer. Manning opens his heart and allows the Lord clear and unhindered access to whatever was on his mind when he wrote these prayers. This prayers have been a wonderful way for me to start my prayer times each day and night.Manning can be hard work to read. He's so intelligent and at times I feel he's in a different league of understanding that I sometimes struggle to read long pieces of his work. And that's why this little book is so good. It's brief, intimate and powerful.I finished it yesterday and started from the beginning today. I'm excited to see what the Lord reveals to me this time around.

Brennan openly shared his life with us. He didn't put on the face or say the things he thought would please the crowd. He was gut-level honest. I want to be that real, that open and honest. His relentless pursuit of God was never abandoned due to his self-proclaimed failures. Instead of running away from Abba to clean up his act, he ran, sometimes crawled to his Abba. Brennan's confidence in Abba's love inspired me to do the same. It revolutionized my relationship with my Abba!!! I know I will never be the same, not because of my strength but because of my Abba's strong, powerful love for me.I thank those of you who are responsible for continuing to perpetuate his great work. Please, please never stop. His message seems to be more relevant now than ever before. God bless you.

Brennan Manning has an amazing ability to put into words my own thoughts and feelings -- and to therefore make me realize that my journey of starts and stops, good, better and worse is not unusual or anything to be concerned about. I am working through my second time on these devotions and I believe I'm getting more from this time around than my first. You'll be glad you invested your money and time.

If you have never read Brennan Manning, this is a great place to start.This is just one month of "thought for the day" type entrys with a verse of scripture, Brennan's thoughts on it and a relevant prayer. You can read each entry in 5 minutes if in a hurry and then digest it during the day. Brennan is always down to earth and practical and when you have finished the month, you can easily start all over again.

The Bible passages are thought-provoking and Manning's thoughts and prayers are good for the soul!This should be on everyone's Kindle!

If you like Brennan's writing - and I do - this is a little treasure trove. A biblical quotation, a comment and a prayer for the morning and evening of each day. Bags of wisdom, lots of heartfelt compassion. Well worth it!
