CitraSolv CitraDrain Valencia Orange - 22 fl oz

Citrasolve has a pleasant smell, but that's not so important. What is, is that it's the best drain un-clogger I've found in the health food stores (I bought it recently on Amazon when my local health food store was out of it). Some of the other products need to be dissolved (which they don't really do), & in general just don't work so well. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, only because the instructions talk about using 1/3 of the bottle for a 1st use, & the shape of the bottle is not conducive to figuring out what that is.

I use a tablespoon of this every morning after I've put on all my grooming products, some of which ends up in my drain. That spoonful keeps the drain running freely. This smells nice and is not a dangerous chemical product.

I know this is a drain cleaner, but it also works as a powerful degreaser and surface cleaner. A little diluted goes a long way, and if you need a stronger solution, you can use it straight from the bottle. Just don’t get it on your skin and clothes. I used it on the back of my stove and on the outside of the fridge and other areas that are otherwise difficult to clean. This makes them look like new.

So my basement bathroom sink drain stops up a lot, I think because it has a long run of a fairly level pipe. It needed a reaming with the snake back in March 2020, but that often would push the crud into the next drain and cause the all my main floor sinks to back up. Given the Covid restrictions and that it would be hard to call in a plumber if that happened, I just lived with a slow draining sink. So fast forward 8 months and now I can't use the sink as it takes a day to drain just from washing my hands. So, with nothing to lose, I ordered this Homesolv enzymatic drain cleaner. It arrived yesterday. I had not used the sink for a while so the water level was well down the drain and I was able to put the recommended 1/3 bottle in which brought it up to the top of the drain. I figured it would sit like that for a long time but no, I could hear some sounds, maybe a bubbling or fizzing, and the level went down. I added more, it went down. Finally I had poured the whole bottle in and it went down I could not see it in the drain. Ten hours later I ran water. It backed up, but more like it was several months ago. I could wash my hands and within minutes it would drain. Still not freely flowing, but a HUGE improvement. Also, so far my other sinks are not backing up. So, now I will pour a little more in (Yeah, I bought two bottles) and keep adding a little at a time, maybe 5 ounces, let it sit 6 hours and run water to see if it improves further.EDIT: Update December 28. I ran the rest of the second bottle into the drain and left it over night. For a week it was running pretty good but eventually backing up some but not staying long. But now I can run the water hard and for long and there is zero backing up. The drain is running free and clear, and I NEVER took a snake to it. Love it, this stuff really worked great. I think it maybe stayed with the scum and kept eating at it even though I had run a lot of water down and so over time the drain seems to have completely cleared.One note, it looks like the trap may hold 6-8 ounces, so I would think one would want to put 10-12 ounces or more into the drain at one time to make sure the rest of the pipe gets treated.It may also have been helpful to me that the pipe on this drain runs close to horizontal for about 6 feet to the larger drain. While this may have helped keep the CitraSolv in place to work on the scum, this may also be the reason this drain pipe clogs so easily.
