It works--but only if you use it correctly, every day
Our 6.5-year-old daughter was sucking her thumb in the womb--we could even see it in the first ultrasound pictures. We didn't want it to become a power struggle or an issue of self-esteem, so we let it go on, and for too long...for the past couple of years, we'd only gently suggested alternatives. But she was not interested in giving up the thumbie at all. Then the dentist told us last spring that she had already damaged her teeth and palate. I got serious about finding options to help her.First, I began to get her excited about the idea. Then I purchased a thumb glove in a bright color for day time. Next, I went hunting for an option for night time, since that is her worst trigger. The thumb guard seemed to be a good option because it's washable and she cannot fling it off during the night. We began a bit half-heartedly and were not consistent at first. But once school was out, I realized i had to make this as much of a non-negotiable issue as brushing teeth before bed.Now that we've been using the thumb guard consistently and correctly for a month, the thumb sucking habit is nearly dead. Our 6.5 year old now voluntarily puts it on each night before bed and she clips the straps each morning to remove it. She enjoys picking the strap color each night and she does not put the thumb in her mouth while sleeping anymore. We believe this will solve the problem for the long term, but the key was to get her excited about it and give her ownership of it once we had made it a consistent practice. The product is not perfect, and it is expensive, but we have found it to be EFFECTIVE and for us, that's what counts. We are ordering our second round of wrist straps and are very pleased with the results.UPDATE--the thumb guard worked and in three months, our daughter had quit thumb sucking for good!

thumbguard
The large says it fits a child 7-15 years, but it was way too big for my 10 year old. It fits me as an adult. We had to get a medium which is almost too small. It seems like the sizes could be more accurate. Also, the way it fits around the wrist is weird. The fit is either too tight or loose enough for her to pull her thumb out without removing the band.

Amazing
My son was a thumb sucker from in utero until just 4 weeks ago at age 8. He was sucking his thumb most of the day and at school. No products seemed right until I came across the thumb guard. My son was ready, which I believe is key to the success. After 4 days and promise of something special he is no longer a thumb sucker. It has been 4 weeks now. Another milestone met!

I guess it's great if your child is younger
My 7 year old figured out how to get out of it the first night even with securing it. I guess it would work great if your child was younger and couldn't figure it out.

Don't waste your money
This didn't work for my daughter at all. She could pull her thumb out to still suck it if she wanted to. When we tried to tighten it so she couldn't get it out, it was way too tight and we didn't feel comfortable leaving it on overnight that tight. Total waste of money. I'm really disappointed.

So far so good.
A little expensive especially since the plastics gets a funky color after use, despite washing it.So far they seem to work though.
