Merthiolate is an absolute must in any IFAK. It is a topical (external use only) disinfectant. for scratches, minor cuts (and I mean very minor cuts) abrasions, bug bites, blisters. the disinfectant power is tremendous. Good product.

82 year old mother in law uses it and she doesn’t complain I haven’t used it but if it didn’t do what it is supposed to do I would have heard about it by now

Not really merthiolate, simply a fair substitute. If you are looking for merthiolate or mercurochrome like your mother used to use on you, this is not the product. Mercurial products were taken off the market in the U.S. by politicians.

Stings just like the old stuff, works like the old stuff, dyes you pink like the old stuff as well. Definitely what you are looking for.

I should of read the label closer, thought I was ordering clear Merthiolate. This puts down a stain that is long lasting.
