Great Read!!
I always write my damn review in the wrong box.... So anyways this book to me a week it's my second book to read about Oak Island after Randall Sullivan's book. I got into the books because of the show and wanted to know more. I love the way D'ARCY O'CONNOR added in his own thinking and thoughts and interviews he had as well. Especially with all the history he researched and then updated it as well. It was super good and the reason it took me a week was because it jammed pack with so much information and evidence. I loved every chapter and was amazed at how he fit so much into only 22 chapters!! Must read for sure. Next book is about the Knight's Templar tie in of Oak Island. He also helped me find some other books on Oak Island 🏝️ !!!! Trust me you'll wanna read this book take it slow don't rush it. It really helps you understand more of what went on through the ages.

Pleasant Surprise
I have to admit that I expected a sensationalized presentation much like the History Channel series "The Curse of Oak Island". However, that was not the case. This book is an in-depth history of the exploration of Oak Island, Nova Scotia for its treasure. It examines all past attempts to find the treasure. The revised edition includes some of the most recent discoveries to date. It also discusses some of the theories on how the treasure would have made it to this isolated island. The author was very candid about his skepticism, while still maintaining an open mind.I can't end this review without adding my own theory to the long list. I feel that based on what has been discovered thus far, the original depositors were Portuguese, most of whom were fugitive Templars. The treasure they were carrying was the "treasure" salvaged by the Templars when the Order was dissolved in 1309. During the 1400s they came to Oak Island, because it was a known Portuguese fishing location, and "off the beaten path". The Templars had extensive knowledge about building tunnels and traps. A couple years later, the "Original Depositors" returned to Oak Island and reclaimed the treasure by circumventing the original Money Pit shaft. How they did this without disturbing the original shaft is the real mystery of Oak Island. In any case, I think any significant treasure is long gone.

Very informative!
This book is one of the more informational of all the Oak Island Treasure books. With that said, it too has it’s tedious sections, but a better part of it is interesting reading. Well written and the author covers just about everything objectively.

The Very Best Book on the Oak Island Money Pit
The very best of all the books I’ve read on Oak Island — with a fascinating chronology and a depth of detail on the mystery I’ve seen nowhere else.Like me, D’Arcy O’Connor is a career journalist — a shared history I mention only because I can see how his storytelling eclipses every other book on this topic.Indeed, O’Connor has been writing about this for so long that he’s had personal access to folks with connections to some still-fairly-early days of the mystery. That’s a claim other current writers just can’t make. The book contains superb anecdotes — many of which I’ve never heard before — and provides the very best context of any books on this topic.Besides the content, O’Connor’s writing style is wonderfully engaging.A number of very good books have been written about “The Money Pit” and the Oak Island mystery ...But this one — hands down — is the very best.

The Best Book on the Oak Island Mystery
I first learned about Oak Island from a story D'Arcy O'Connor wrote in the "Wall Street Journal," so of course bought this book when it first came out in 1978. This is the third edition, and I've read all of them; each updates the story. There are numerous books on the subject, proposing all sorts of theories ranging from the unlikely to the really bizarre. (I haven't seen it credited to aliens yet, but suspect that book is probably in the works.) O'Connor is a good writer and a serious researcher; he spent probably 50 years working on this subject. He was able to interview a number of the important characters from recent years, people no longer alive. O'Connor's theory of why and how the "treasure" was buried (no one really knows what it is) seems to me to be the most logical and best supported by the known facts. It involves a missing Spanish galleon transporting gold, silver and jewels looted from Central America that is blown off course in a storm. The idea that the "Money Pit" contains the papers of Francis Bacon proving he wrote the works of William Shakespeare isn't as unlikely as it sounds, and perhaps pirates, notably Captain William Kidd, were involved, but O'Connor shows why these solutions are unlikely at best. There is a recent book by Randall Sullivan which is also a serious look at the Oak Island story, but for me the first, and perhaps only book to buy on the Oak Island mystery, is the third edition of D'Arcy O'Connor's "The Secret Treasure of Oak Island."

Excellent and factual book
If you’re interested in the Oak Island mystery and follow the curse of oak island tv series you will enjoy this book- well written and researched by the author - it examines the myriad theories, describes the many searchers efforts since the money pit was first discovered in 1795, and overall is an excellent read- great stuff but then I’m completely hooked by the oak island mystery myself

Bello e interessantissimo

Entertaining and informative
Excellent book. The author has been investigating this mystery since around 1978. The 2018 updated version of the book is based on extensive research and interviews including involvement of the Lagina brothers. Really well written, easy to read, and entertaining especially with debunking different oddball theories. Interesting maps, diagrams, and photos. Highly recommend it.

Informative and entertaining!
After watching the tv show ‘the curse of oak island’ I wanted to learn more about the history of the island and the treasure hunts over the years. I’m half way through reading this book and am throughly enjoying it. There’s a good mix of historical fact and ‘possible theories’ which makes it informative and entertaining. Would recommend to any fans of the show who want to know more. Great read!
