The Vikings (Elite, 3)

Main reason to buy was the Angus McBride illustrations but they look like they failed to do a final color pass or something. In other books in this series his pictures come out great but in this one they’re all washed out.

This was a gift and he loved the information, his only remark was they were to short.

This is by far the best book on the Vikings from a military perspective, Osprey or otherwise. The text is concise and is both exciting and informative. The plates depict the Viking warriors as well as their enemies and their women with lifelike expressions and poses, and include several spirited battlescenes.

Great book

This is a very nice introduction into the world of the Vikings from a military perspective. Due to it's size it can't cover everything, but it isn't meant to. The information is quick and to the point offering up some very interesting points about the Vikings and the world in which they inhabited. It covers all aspects from the general history to particular tactics, weaponry and technology etc. The plates are just amazing, Angus McBride is one of my favourite illustrators and he is missed greatly. The plate of the Viking sea battle is just stunning and so atmospheric. This is definitely a brilliant book to have a flick through and just admire the easy to access information AND the amazing illustrations.

Not much I can add to this. It’s up to the normal Osprey standard and I have many many of them. I always consider Osprey as a starting place for further research. And have been collecting them since the 70s. Won’t hear anything bad said about them.

A great overview with some absolutely fantastic illustrations, this book is a hugely useful introduction to the Vikings and their culture. Unsurprisingly, it focuses more on the military aspects of their society, but is still an entertaining and informative read.

great book from the osprey publishing house, well written and illustration up to the expected standard, covers the subject in excellent style.
