The set itself came with one corner slightly damaged. But it wasn't so bad that we returned it. Just a minor inconvenience

Good one to start off with, easy to use and looks good.

No, this is not a stunning chess set, but yes, it's a really decent set to learn on and a very good value for the money. I saw the $6 set and just knew it couldn't be worth even just the $6. But for $20, I'm very happy with this set. A couple of the pawns are not quite straight, but not terribly so. I would recommend. I'm using an app on my phone to learn how to plat better and if I end up really like it, I'll likely look for a really nice set at some point.

Update: The day my initial review posted, MetaRetail contacted me to send me replacement pieces. The pieces arrived the next day and match the rest of the set. I have upgraded to 4/5 stars.***I was excited as I began to set this up, but then found that a white knight piece was damaged and one brown pawn was missing. I contacted MetaRetail who referred me to Amazon Returns. However, since I don't have the shipping carton (and other obstacles in exchanging this item) I'm just going to have my brother whittle me a pawn. I'm upset that my set was defective but it's not the end of the world. It otherwise is attractive and seems well-made.Pros: The pieces feel nice, not too light.Cons: Pieces missing.

So I will be returning this for sure. It is definitely not "Hight Quality".First of all, the board is crooked. You can actually see that in the picture if you look closely. Maybe that's a minor thing to some people, but to me it feels like the company just didn't care enough. It also makes the set look way cheaper.Second, the pieces are very light, they almost feel plastic.Third, the velvet covers on a couple of the pieces are slightly chipped. That made the set seem used or once again the company just didn't give a damn enough to avoid such a minor defect.I am only giving this product 3 stars because it is affordable and fully functional. It doesn't wobble and nothing is broken. The wood which the box is made out of, also seems to be pretty good quality. So if you are looking for a temporary set, or something to teach your kids how to play, or a an extra set to keep around, then this will work just fine. But I got this as a present for my boyfriend and he was disappointed, as was I.

Overall this is a decent chess set for the price. It's pretty big when you unfold it, and the pieces could be a tad bigger. Two of my pieces were a bit deformed, but there is a process for replacing those included with the instructions (I haven't done that yet). If you're looking for a cheap chess set, this one does the trick. If you're looking for a nicer board or for a gift, maybe spend a few more dollars for something else.
