3rd in a series of books
This series is very interesting & keeps your interest going even though it is one of a series of long books. It is set in 17th century Scotland & is loosely based on the Biblical story of Jacob. You must read the entire series!

Whence Came a Prince
In the Scottish Lowlands, it is the summer of 1790, and Jamie McKie is the prodigal returning home in the hopes they have forgiven him from his shameful past. His father Alec, whom he deceived, and his brother Evan, who's inheritance he stole. Wrestling his fears of a confrontation, and trying to stay a step ahead of his devious uncle Lachlan, Jamie is pressed on all sides to make the hardest decisions of his life. Two women lay claim to him and his affections; Leana, the mother of his firstborn and heir, and Rose, who is carrying his second child. Uncertain of his future with the scandal that rivaled any marriage in all of Christendom, and even less certain of his fate when he arrives home - Jamie sets out on a journey that will either be his redemption, or will cost him everything he loves. This imaginative re-telling of the story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel is as heartbreaking as it's Biblical counterpart. There are many joys and sorrows that simply are part of the story, but that doesn't make it any easier to bear. The thing I loved the most about this book and the series in general, is that it's not the romantic happily-ever-after feel-good kind of story. Yes, liberties were take with the story lines, but it is a parallel work of fiction set in 1700's Scotland. That said, Whence Came a Prince is a beautiful fictional account of a timeless Biblical story.

Hands Down One of THE BEST Authors and BEST Series EVER
God has given Liz Curtis Higgs a VERY SPECIAL GIFT to write books. She is a natural. Not only did I get lost in her historical fiction for hours but MY HUSBAND laughed and cried with me as well, knowing how much the stories meant to me as I read them.'Thorn in My Heart', 'Fair is the Rose', and 'Whence Came a Prince' are Biblically based and they are real. The reader experiences BEAUTIFUL, RAW, GOD GIVEN EMOTIONS while reading them. You cry, you hurt, you love, you inflate, you deflate, you heal, and you love some more.Whatever you do, if you are a woman who is forever searching for worthy Christian fiction, PLEASE DO NOT PASS THIS SERIES (or any of Liz Curtis Higgs books) BY. Buy the books and let them bless you!

A good conclusion to a marvelous series
This third book in the series was not as good as Thorn, but a whole lot better than Rose. Except for the first part when Jamie falls in love with such a shallow, spoiled, cosseted flirt like Rose. (Though I grant that's she's grown up a bit from the second to the third book) But that's beside the point. Anyways, the ending was so perfect (Jamie ends up with Leana), and the characters are real people to me. I can identify with them, and I heartily recommend this series to anyone who likes fiction. I loved this reading this, and I can't wait until Grace in Thine Eyes comes out. However, I would like to answer a question from the study guide in Prince. Beware of spoilers! #10: Were you prepared for the story to take tragic turn in Monnigaff? More than prepared. I was looking forward to it. In fact, it was the second scene I looked for, after the scene when Lachlan finds his gold is missing. What feelings did those scenes with Rose evoke?Feral joy, though I was a bit melancholic for Leana's pain.I think you can tell by now I have a personal vendetta against Rose; but even still, this series is one of the best I've ever read

Wonderful telling of a Biblical tale
I have just finished this book and loved it. I enjoyed the first two books in this series but this third one was by far the best. How Liz Curtis Higgs manages to tell a tale from biblical times in 18th Century Lowland Scotland is extremely clever. This book actually had me picking up my Bible to check the original story. Being a Scot born and bred, now living in the US, I enjoyed the Scottish language and descriptions of the countryside, reminding me very much of home. This is the first time I remember reading a book which actually made me cry. I can't give this book enough praise it was so well written, I am only sorry that it is the last of this series, I look forward to reading more of Miss Higgs books.

Because I had to know!
Books 1 and 2 hooked me in. For a while I couldn’t get 3 on my Kindle. Once I did, I couldn’t put it down.

Still wonderful...Even 3 books in :)
The only really sad thing was that the books were drawing to an end. And I was trying to read fast as I was eager to see what happened, but slowly, because I didn't want it to end!I loved the story, the setting, the characters, the plot, and pretty much everything about this book. This triology is one of my favorite books! This book, besides the fact that it was the ending, was still the saddest part of the triology. So much tragedy and heartbreak, but about finding happiness through the worst.I really enjoy this book, although I haven't gotten a chance to read it again since I bought it.It was a wonderful moral book with an awesome story. I would recommend it to anyone.

A continuation to a masterpiece sequel!
I loved the book and was very happy to finally see the resolution of love of the two sisters for the same man. It ended well though it had very emotional scenes toward the end. The book will bring tears to your eyes. I have felt lump in my throat and felt the pain. The story of the sisters did not end the same way that in the bible, so I will encourage everybody to read it who is skeptical of already knowing the ending by connecting the plots with the bible. Liz does not end to surprise me with twists and turns.A great novel!

This was the final book in the series, I was spell bound throughout, wondering how it would all come about.
I was spell bound throughout the whole series, and this final book didn't disappoint me. I bought the series to give to my daughter as I know she'll love it like I did.

Superb story, characters...book!
I wish I could give this back 10 stars! I started reading it and it took a little bit (about 1/3 to halfway) to get hooked, but then I was hooked, line and sinker! It had me crying and rejoicing along with the characters. When I finished this one I couldn't hardly wait to start the next one, so I finished the whol series in about a week (good thing I had vacation!) Definitely worth reading! I gave it to my best friend afterwards as a birthday gift.
