Grass jelly, or leaf jelly, is a jelly-like dessert eaten in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. For some reasons, it is so hard to grow grass jelly in North America. We have been trying to grow grass jelly for years. The Taiwan grass jelly seeds were freshly harvested from my parents' grass jelly patch in Taiwan. We were able to germinate some IN A GREEN HOUSE. They were germinated in August, but grow very very slow. After a half year, only grow to 4" tall. If you are a determined grass jelly grower like few of us, you are more than welcome to give it a shot. I have sold a couple of Taiwan grass jelly seeds to few adventurous grass jelly grower, they were able to germinate them, but not sure if they are able to keep them alive. We really don't want to sell the saved Taiwan grass jelly seeds, but if you are determined to grow some, here it is.

Suggest method for germination of very small mesona chinensis seeds
Seeds of mesona chinensis are so tiny they look like dust particles. If one to sow them directly outdoor, it may be too deep, too dry, or too much disturbing when one waters the soil for the seed to germinate. This is what I do:1) put the seeds inside folded paper towel, wet the towel, put inside plastic sandwich bag for about 3 days(in no case , longer than 5 days, seeds may germinate and grow roots into the paper towel, there will be chance of damage the plants when one try to separate them from the paper)2) use tooth pick to sow (insert) the seeds, barely below the moist potting soil at depth of 1/32 of an inch (water the potting soil beforehand, otherwise the seeds will be disturbed, washed off if one waters the pot later)3) put the potted cup inside ziplog plastic bag until seeds germinate (3 to 5 days after sowing in soil)4) grow the small plants inside the ziploc bags and harden them off slowly by open the ziploc bag more as time goes by.I believe one can get at least 50% of seedlings from the seeds this way, and be assured that all the good seeds have the chance to germinateI got 64% germination5) To show how small the seeds are , I add a photo of the seeds after 24 Hrs inside the wet paper towel along with the measurement tape, At this stage, the seeds already absorb some water and swell to at least 4 times bigger or more than the original dry size . If one does not know that they are truly look like dust, one may discard the dust like seeds and mistakenly sow the various odd shape & larger remnant fragment of the seed pod or flower bract.
