Beautiful, Simple yet Mesmerizing
I have wanted this type of wave machine it seems, forever. I first saw a wave machine as a child and was immediately drawn to them. I never seemed to be able to have one until I was much, much older. This was a gift from my wife. And i must say, this particular model is a much more artistic version than any other model i had seen before. Design and build quality are excellent. It is a favorite of my Grand children when they come to visit. The wave machine has provided countless hours of entertainment and joy for our whole family.

Wishing I had a Lava Wave Motion Machine, but this is still quite nice.
The Smithsonian Wave Machine is running well. The motor does make a little noise, but if you have the tv/stereo/youtube running/whatever on, you won't notice it. I have owned this since Sep. 20th, have had it running every day but two, no trouble with the battery. The motion is not super smooth, but I got used to that quickly.Seeing this wave machine makes me wish I'd saved up for a proper one when I was young. I remember ages ago, before Lava Lamps were sold only in Walmart, on Amazon, at Spencer's Gifts, or sometimes at Target, you could find them for sale at gift shops in malls. I would stand in these shops, admiring the somewhat pricy (for me) gooey Lava Lamps and marveling at the mysterious Lava Wave Motion Machine (far too pricy).I think this is a fine wave motion machine. Since Lava Lite has nearly gone the way of the dinosaur, this is as good as you'll get unless you have the cash for a used machine on Evilbay.

Wave Machine
I picked one of these Smithsonian Wave Machines up for one of our kids and they love it. It kinda reminds me of the old wave machines from the 80's a little bit. The shape of the wave cell is tapered and not square and a bit smaller in size but it does not disappoint in action. The wave vessel is sealed and there is no way to add or remove fluids without drilling a hole and plugging it. The wave machine and it's fluids have a very good wave action for a vessel of this size. This item is very easy to set up and use. This wave machine takes, (1) C battery that is not included to run the base and a push button on and off. There is no option to plug this machine into an AC outlet for power is the only downfall in my opinion. I would have rated this wave machine 5 stars if it had the option to wall plug in for power. Being that it can only be ran by battery I took off a star and rated it at 4.

Cool for 5 mins
The media could not be loaded. My father had one when I was a kid and I bought it for sentimental purposes. It’s cool, but it runs out of its fun time very quickly.

Less than stellar.
I dont really like it. First off, it came sealed, but the box must have been exposed to temperature extremes because the blue fluid was caked on one side of the clear case. I thought it might eventually was away, but I've had it running constantly and it still hasn't rubbed off. It's a sealed vessel so theres no manually cleaning the inside where the fluids are. It detracts from the effect when you see them. I'm lazy to return it but I should. Its hypnotic, but a little noisy. I just dont look at it much really. 5 minute toy to throw away. Not worth the price in my opinion.
