Black Diamond Men Spot 325 Headlamp - Black, One Size

Black Diamond just never gets it right
Pros:- Very bright- "Black" colorway now features the BD logo blacked out instead of in bright white on the headbandCons:- The 2 button system is somehow even worse and less intuitive than the older model- The button is cheap and very hard to press. The button itself is large but only works if you press it directly in the center- When you try to dim the light it immediately jumps to full brightness first nearly knocking you out- No way to get to red mode from white mode without first cycling through max power, ruining your night vision- When the unit is locked and the button is accidentally pressed in a backpack or something, the red LED flashes at high brightness instead of the old version where only the tiny side indicators light up. This will potentially kill the units' battery quicker and is such a stupid change.- The button is so loud to click whereas the old model was silent- The tilted mechanism is so cheap, flimsy, and LOUD compared to the near-silent and study old design!Black Diamond just ticks me off. One step forward, two steps back always. It's like the engineers don't even use the product. The only way this model is an improvement is in the brightness and blacked out logo. Everything else is frustratingly bad. All you have to do is call up a customer like myself who actually uses the product and this could've been remedied in design.

The King of Headlaps
This is my third headlamp purchase and by far my best. It's lightweight, it fits comfortably, and wow is it BRIGHT! Note to users: it's not intended for full-intensity running for long stretches. it will last a while at 325 (maximum), but save that for when you need it! The lower settings and optional lamps do the trick for 80-90% of your trekking and uses far less power doing so. But that's just common sense, right? A bit confused by reviewers assuming running at maximum power this would last forever. For those who want reliably, ease-of-use and a fantastic product, this is a headlamp worth considering.

Red light is a little weak. Great on/off.
The white light is bright enough, though a little weak if you're using it as a headlight for bike riding. The red light is also pretty weak, although I think suitable for my application. What's really good about this light is that there is a dedicated on/off switch so you don't need to cycle through the various modes just to shut the light off, as is the case with so many of these headlamps. Also, it has memory. After you turn the light off, it comes back on in the same mode it is switched back on.The real problem with the light is that one of the two headband adjusters is on backwards. That makes it a little uncomfortable to wear. The adjuster cannot be removed from the headband, so it can't be turned around. I sent the original unit back because of this but the replacement was the same. Somebody needs to figure it out and start putting the adjusters on correctly.Another good thing about this unit is that it comes with Duracell alkaline batteries rather than some off brand or non-alkaline examples.

Simple, Bright, Cheap, Long-lasting light for most of what you might need.
I bought this headlamp for a trip to Kenya. Background: I am a runner (ran at a D1 school, Olympic Trials in the marathon, I live in CO and run at night here and in OR). I needed something I could easily use, pack and not take up space, and be very versatile. This headlamp clicked all the boxes (except for one, I'll share that later).First, it uses 3 AAA batteries: Easy to find, replace, etc. I bought some Amazon Basics rechargeables for the trip and was very happy with them. These batteries + the headlamp are the lightest HL I've ever had. (I've had the PrincetonTec EOS and a Fenix HP10). Due to the new tech, this is also the lightest + brightest HL I've ever owned.I had zero problems navigating trails while running with this unit on. Because it's so light, it didn't bob up and down on my head.I really liked the slight touch feature on the side to make this unit go to full power simply. The battery feature works fine, though at night the blue indicator light was an obnoxious hue. I'd rather they use red or green to not destroy my night time vision. The red light is a simple and very usable feature, this is the first time I've had a HL with this option.I like how there were flashing modes (if needed to use as an emergency flasher). The only downside... was the case. It's not waterproof. There is no obvious seal around the battery enclosure, thought the plastic door closes on a rubberized part of the HL case, there is still some space here and especially around the hinge. If Black Diamond wanted to make this bombproof and the best HL in this area, add the waterproofing! I didn't try this in the rain, I can't comment on the unit's ability to hold out H20, but I didn't want to be in Kenya with a paperweight in case it broke.All-in-all, I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars. Thanks Black Diamond for making a great product. Now, go make it amazing!

I’m a very happy (not) camper.
This is the best thing I ever bought that I didn’t know I needed until I bought itI am not an outdoorsman. I bought these to work around the house. I always thought it was a good idea. I just never pulled the trigger on it. I have no idea why I waited so long. My sister who is very outdoorsy recommend the brand while we were working on a house. The controls are very natural. Just read the instructions and you’ll be fine. The battery life is great. Just don’t leave it at full power constantly. Which brings me to my favorite function, the instant full power button. That with memory feature are why I am so glad I upgraded to this model over a slightly cheaper model. Very convenient.

Good.
Bought for fishing, and it was pretty terrible for that, BUT for hiking and night walking I can see that this would be a very good choice.Having spent some time outdoors in various environments I would say (with a small amount of qualification to do so) that this has the functionality needed to merit a pace in your kit. The main beam is good enough to give you the road ahead, whilst the secondary white light is sufficiently diffused to make for in-camp activity ease. Not sure what the red is for - I’ve never actually used it, but then I’m not in the military or aircraft directing game.Would I buy it again? No, but I’m really fussy and I like the build quality of Petzl or the performance of Lenser.Would I recommend it? Yes. It works really well and there’s is a reason it’s popular with trail types.

Very bright but can't be used in wet conditions
This lamp is very bright and it's great that you can dim it and use the red light option... but there's no way that this lamp has IPX8 water resistance. As soon as you even go into heavy mist you get moisture in the battery compartment and this causes corrosion inside. At first this only caused an intermittent fault that could be fixed by fiddling around with the batteries and maybe scraping the terminals down with sandpaper... but then it just stopped working entirely.I have returned for a refund - very disappointing. I hope they've managed to fix these issues.

Good All Rounder
The good - very light and compact, uses AAA batteries. Good choice of modes. Has lock to prevet acciddental switch on in the rucsac. One star off as I found walking in over rough ground to a bothy it wasn't quite bright enough. Did the job but for any planned trip where I would be walking in the dark the extra weight of a brighter light would be worthwhile.

Downright nifty!
I had to return this particular item because it did not arrive on time before departure from the UK, but have since purchased it in the US.I don't know what more you could ask from a headlamp, it simply caters to just about every option imaginable, and does so well. If interested, I recommend you read the specs and features directly, rather than pointing them out here, since there are simply too many of them to do them justice in this limiting blurb. Only to say, I am more than happy with this purchase: it's weight, it's functionality, it's quality, etc.Only thing to watch out for is the correct battery specs, since they are grossly misrepresented in the packaging, and in some advertisements, but correctly stated on their site.
