Be aware that the boom does not use international standards for the units.
The book is as good as all reviews here claims but be aware that it is written with English units. It is not a problem but it would be nice to have an edition with the International standards.

The Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice
Volume 1 versus Volume 2Volume 2 often contained references that were based on criteria explained and listed in Vol 1.It was a natural choice to to obtain Volume 1 to understand the many of the complexities contained in Vol 2A Great Read!

CF Taylor, a must have for an auto engineer's library
This is the first book of a two-book set of CF Taylor's masterful presentation of the state of internal combustion engine technology at the time of publishing. Taylor is considered one of the gurus of field.

Wish i was an engineer or mathematician to appreciate it fully.
You need to be a engineer to read it, however there's graphs and tables that are reasonably self explanatory.

Good for its time, but there are now better available.
Good for its time, but very dated. Heywood is far superior and more readable. Perhaps ok as a reference, but not very current in 2014.

Just the book I was looking for. Makes a great team with Heywood's book

excellent, but involved
This book is in lines of the Bosch Automotive Handbook. Lots of formulas, hardcore theory, useful (and not-so-useful) graphs, and practical examples with detailed explanation as to how one arrives at the solution.Invaluable resource for anyone seriously interested in automotive engineering.
