An Absolete Must Read
Bruce Feiler is an author, but this word alone is not sufficient to describe his magic with words. He is a phenominal storyteller and the humor and wisdom he adds to this book makes it difficult to put down. I have been to Israel two times, the last time directing a documentary on the Israli/Lebanese border. I did much research for this trip, visited many of the places Bruce Feiler writes about, but my research resembled a first grade primer in comparison. Feiler has the capacity and talent to take you along on his journeys and you leave each stop on his trips wanting to stay a little longer. Myths you've believed all your life about so many things are cleared up in this book. Facts and solid evidence abounds, making this an exciting, unforgettable book. Even the title, Where God Was Born, jumps off the shelves. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Feiler transports his readers, me in particular, to every stop on his trek and when you close the book, you will eitherre-read it or run fast and tell someone else to "get this book."

enlightening and entertaining
I have enjoyed reading Walking the Bible and Abraham by Bruce Feiler as well as some of his earlier books. So naturallyI did not want to miss reading Where God Was Born. Once again I was not disappointed. What a wonderful way to "travel" and Bruce makes a wonderful tour guide. He has great insight and knowledge of the areas he visits as well as the ability to make it a terrific read. This is another "don't miss" book by a wonderful author.

Extremely well researched AND entertaining to read. Couldn't put it down
I teach Sunday School--this year Old Testament. What a wonderful perspective. Actually, perspectiveS. I love the inter-religious conversations with experts in the topic who had different views. Really broadened my understanding of the ancient covenant peoples.

Monotheism On Review
A slow and overdone beginning soon morphs into a fascinating narrative of discovery by a man in search of his culture's ancient roots and the significance of his Jewish past. Join in this tour of myths and facts spread across the deserts, ruins and dusty towns of the Middle East and southwest Asia for a look at from where and why the most important foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam were laid down.

Fascinating look at the three Abrahamic faiths
I enjoyed this book with a story told in a readable fashion including some humor. Could have been very dry but wasn't. Recommended.

discouraging
This book lacks photographs something critical to his descriptions. Perhaps it is an attempt to force readers into buying his other books.Secondly the reader does not know what Bible he is using the hebrew one or the christians one. he does not have a good understanding or knowledge of the bible claiming David did not kill Goliath!!his interpretations of the Bible are incorrect clearly using his human wisdom rather than a spiritual God given one.He clearly often criticises Christians and is supportive of the Jews and Muslims. almost as if to attack them.I would not recommend this book to anyone who does not have clearl biblical foundation and understnading as it will mislead many.

Expect the unexpected
Bruce's "travel log" is both physical and spiritual. Be prepared to question your own beliefs and expand your faith. He opened my eyes to new depths of God's power and grace. Bruce writes in a manner that makes you feel you are walking at his side every step of the way.

Great exploration of Bible land
Very interesting exploration and discussion with current people of the land. Author's goal seems to be the bringing together of all the region to peace and acceptance of each other religion.

Patiently researched area of the globe where God was born.
This book describes in great detail what it was like to live in the time of the beginning of the Bible. Even though I am not a believer, I could not put it down.
