A beautiful homage to Charles Shultz and his characters
This book is a must have for Peanuts fans, or frankly anyone who grew up during this period in U.S. pop culture history when Peanuts appeared daily in the comics. In many respects it's almost a Library of America Festschrift honoring Shultz and the deeper meaning that his work gave to others. The authors they have lined up for this work are phenomenal and come at this from all different perspectives - fellow authors, comics, psychologists, writers, etc. The only advice I would give is to take this in manageable chunks, an essay or two at a time. While all the essays are beautifully written, they do tend to hit the same notes or themes over and over (Charlie Brown and the football, Lucy the psychologist, Linus the intellectual, etc.) so you'll likely need to space them out to truly enjoy them. A really well done volume by Library of America, can't recommend enough!

sincere and that's all that counts
Opening disclosure is that I was born in 1960 and therefore came of age precisely in the prime years of "Peanuts" -- '60s and '70s. Devoured the comic strip as a child and continued for years after in all sorts of ways. Pre-ordered this book months ago and got it the day it was published. Dove into it instantly and finished in three days. A fantastic, fun, humorous, insightful look at "Peanuts" from many angles -- characters, culture, music, and much more. A must-read, terrific collection of pieces. Naturally, makes me want to reread my collections of the strip, as well as the biography.

Interesting gathering of observations by people I mostly never heard of
Peanuts played a large part of many people's lives. Here, we are treated to a sampling of brief essays showing this impact. A chunk of these are by people new to me.
