ZigBee 3.0 RGBW Remote Enjoy the convenience of operating your smart lights with a handheld remote. The ZB-5008 gives you fingertip control of color, on/off and dimming of up to 30 lighting devices. Control 4 different zones with 3 scene recall per zone. Features include smooth fading with gentle off dimming, built in effects, and white light temperature control. Use the RGBgenie ZigBee MESHgenie (ZB-2004) to create a device network if you do not own a home controller. The set-up module can bind RGBgenie touch panels and remotes with both RGBgenie single color and RGBW controllers. The MESHgenie can also add other compatible light bulbs to the system. Once the mesh network is created, the MESHgenie can be unplugged and stored for when you add another device. Configured in this manner, no network access is required. No online account or app is needed. And your devices do not rely on the internet. Reaction time is very quick as the devices communicate directly with each other.

Doesn't work as a regular ZigBee ZHA device easily usable in HomeAssistant
So apparently it doesn't send appropriate zha_events for most of the button pushes, or the RGB dial with a coordinator hooked up to HomeAssistant. Unfortunately. So if you're looking to tie this into a DIY/HomeAssistant setup, I'd avoid this. Probably OK otherwise, but didn't test it.

FINALLY! What I've been looking for!
Gotta say.... definitely exceeds my expectations! Paired easily with Hubitat once I read the instructions and kept the device awake while it was initializing. The color wheel works surprisingly well with minimal lag. The color temperature controls are fantastic and the remote seems to switch between RGB & CT modes without issue. My only constructive criticism is that the user manual needs to have specific instructions for Hubitat setup. I found what I needed after googling, but it'd be nice to have it written with the pairing instructions. But even with googling, I had it up and running within 10 minutes. If you're using this with Hubitat, know that it will be recognized as an RGBgenie device- not a button controller. It will be shown as one device with four child components. The four components are related to buttons 1-4, which are used to control "zones"/lights/groups of lights. To designate zones, you'll need to use the built-in Mirror app. To set the lights for each zone, go to the Mirror app and select child [zone #] component as the master, and then set the lights you want to control as the slave devices. Do this for each of the four zones. That's it-- the remote is set up.To configure the scenes for each zone, you need to go to the Controller device and enable "Scene Set & Capture". This will allow you to use the remote-- not Hubitat-- to set the scenes for each zone. To set the scenes, just set the lights the way you'd like the scene to be, and then long press S1, S2, or S3. After that, you can short press the S# button to recall the scene.Overall, this is a fantastic controller at an unbeatable price. The only issue I've found with it is changing between zones after it's been asleep. For example, if I was in zone 1, and I tried to switch to zone 2 after the controller had been asleep, it would try to control zone 1 even though I'd presssed zone 2.

Superficially nice but actually unusable
Like so much of the new Chinese stuff, someone has put a lot of effort into making the hardware nice, and zero effort into making it usable. It comes with no manual, no instructions whatever. You can do a web search to find a manual, but that won't do you very much good...I wanted to use this with Hue, as is loudly promised by the web page. Could never get it to pair with the hub. Why not? Not a clue. But neither the instructions in the manual, or instruction on YouTube, ever got it paired to the hub. I think my model came pre-paired with some other hub, and the instructions that are supposed to reset it simply do not work.I COULD get it to pair with individual bulbs using TouchLink mode, and that is very sweet -- once pairing has occurred the remote is nice! It's especially fun to spin through the color wheel. BUT this TouchLink mode is not really acceptable for my use cases.- it doesn't appear as a Hue device in any way (so you can't get to it and program using it via HomeBridge, or Hue, or iConnectHue or anything else)- you can only bind a single lightbulb to a single zoneIt also seems not fully debugged for Ambient bulbs. While the color temperature cycling worked fine for a color bulb, it does not nothing on the Ambient (white only, but variable temperature) bulbs. So, basically, a promising device in principle, but the company really needs to hire someone who cares about QA to do a better job! This business of clicking random buttons to configure it is absurd in 2020, like something out of the 90s. Put a damn Bluetooth chip in the remote, and provide an app to configure the remote!

Great Remote for Controlling RGB Smart Lights
Right so, I got this and its wall panel sibling at the same time. And I gotta say, impressed with them both, but this review is about the remote. Aside from a minor quirk during setup (it doesn't show in Hue app, egads!), it is supremely easy to connect & use. You have a power all on/off button, RGB control, brightness controll, 4 zones to control, 3 scenes to set, and some built-in presets. Most of the buttons have slightly differing functions based on whether you short or long press the buttons, allowing for a significant degree of control from the remote. Making it remember the bulbs is as simple as a few button taps and holding the remote close by. The remote itself feels nice, it has a contoured body made plastic with a soft rubberized finish, and is light enough to not be a burden but heavy enough to feel substantial. It also comes with a magnetic wall-mount, if you want to do that (I have mine on my desk's side, lol). And there are very few, if any, devices currently out there beyond copies of this one, and I suggest you support RGBGenie. The customer service this gentleman offers is out of this world- he gives people his cellular phone number in the box. He will pick the phone up, and give you technical support. I know this from experience, it was sorta wild. All in all, great product by a great company, buy this if you want to control your smart lighting without using your smart phone.

takes patience, works with home assistant and multiple color bulbs
Slight head scratcher but it does seem to work.Using a raspberry pi with decon and home assistant. I have 3 of the zone buttons configured. 1 for each bulb in the ceiling fan and one to control the light group. How to pair bulbs in home assistant to a specific button.Go to the rgbgenie device in home assistant and go to manage clusters for the remote. As in the instructions for the remote, hit the zone button to pair, hold the main power button I think til it holds and then hit the s3 button i think. In home assistant, in the remote cluster page, you should see device binding. Select the bulb you want to bind and try it.I found that sometimes it blinks fail even though it works so try hitting the zone button and changing the color.Sometimes there is some lag, but that might be my bulbs which are cheap. Will be buying another remote.

Won’t connect to the Hue ecosystem directly
Another disappointed customer!!! The remote could never connect to the Hue bridge, no matter what I tried. I did manage to connect it to the Hue lightstrip directly but that kicks the strip light off of the Hue bridge and then consequently stopped working with the app and Alexa or Google. Just a bit confused why you wouldn’t just make a quick video on YouTube with a link here for people trying to use this with the PHILIPS hue ecosystem. You might want to remove the part in the title that says “Works with Philips Hue”, because it doesn’t !!!
